Description

Claritine Active - a medicinal product with prolonged action.

Composition

The active substances of the drug are loratadine ( Loratadinum ) and pseudoephedrine sulfate ( Pseudoephedrini sulfas ).

1 tablet contains 5 mg of loratadine and 120 mg of pseudoephedrine sulfate.

Excipients : tablet core: lactose monohydrate, corn starch, povidone, magnesium stearate; coating composition: acacia gum, sucrose, calcium sulfate dihydrate, calcium sulfate anhydrous, rosin, zein, oleic acid, neutral soap, talc, microcrystalline cellulose, titanium dioxide, white wax, carnauba wax.

Dosage

Always use this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as advised by your doctor or pharmacist.

Recommended dose: 1 tablet 2 times a day.

The tablet should be swallowed whole with a glass of water.

Do not take this medicine for more than 10 days without consulting your doctor.

Action

Loratadine helps reduce allergic symptoms by inhibiting the action of a substance in the body called histamine.

Pseudoephedrine helps reduce nasal congestion.

Indications

Claritine Active is used to treat the symptoms of intermittent allergic rhinitis accompanied by nasal congestion.

Contraindications

When not to use Claritine Active :

• if you are allergic to loratadine, pseudoephedrine or any of the other ingredients of this medicine,
• if you have narrow-angle glaucoma, hyperthyroidism, difficulty urinating, urinary retention, high blood pressure, heart or blood vessel disease,
• if you have had a stroke in the past or are at risk of having a stroke,
• in children under 12 years of age,
• in pregnant women.

Side effects

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

Very common side effects (1 in 10 patients):

• insomnia.

Common side effects (affecting 1 to 10 in 100 patients):

• desire,
• nervousness,
• somnolence,
• depression,
• stimulation,
• lack of appetite,
• dizziness,
• dry mouth,
• pharyngitis,
• constipation,
• nausea,
• headaches,
• feeling tired.

Uncommon side effects (affecting 1 to 10 patients in 1,000):

• confusion,
• trembling,
• increased sweating,
• hot flash,
• taste disturbance,
• increased tearing,
• tinnitus,
• heart palpitations,
• nosebleed,
• itching.

Very rare side effects (1 in 10,000 patients):

• rash,
• hives,
• dizziness,
• convulsions,
• high blood pressure,
• cough,
• difficulty breathing,
• urinary retention,
• baldness.

Frequency unknown:

• weight gain.

Warnings and precautions

• Stop using Claritine Active and contact your doctor immediately if you experience symptoms such as fever, rash or small spots all over your body.
• If you are undergoing surgery, you should stop taking Claritine Active 24 hours before the procedure.
• Claritine Active has addictive properties that may occur if you take the medicine for longer than recommended.
• Taking doses higher than recommended may cause poisoning.
• The use of Claritine Active may cause positive anti-doping test results.
• Claritine Active contains lactose and sucrose, if you have been told by your doctor that you have an intolerance to some sugars, contact your doctor before taking Claritine Active .
• Store at a temperature below 25 ^o C.
• Keep the medicine out of the sight and reach of children.

Use of other medications

Please tell your doctor or pharmacist about all the medicines you are taking, have recently taken or might take, including medicines obtained without a prescription.

Claritine Active may interact with:

• drugs that increase and lower blood pressure,
• drugs used to treat heart rhythm disorders,
• antidepressants from the monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAO) group,
• drugs used for diarrhea,
• medications used for migraine.

Taking the medicine with food and drink

The medicine can be taken regardless of meals.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.

Claritine Active should not be used during pregnancy.

If a woman is breastfeeding, she should not take Claritine Active.

Impact on laboratory tests

You should stop using Claritine Active at least 48 hours before performing allergy skin tests.

Use of the drug in children and adolescents

Claritine Active should not be used in children under 12 years of age.

Driving and operating machinery

Patients should refrain from driving or operating machinery until they have tested their individual response to Claritine Active . They should not drive or operate machinery if they experience symptoms such as drowsiness, dizziness, confusion, or headache, which may impair their ability to drive or operate machinery.
