Description
Geographic atlas. Secondary and technical secondary schools are intended for a full cycle of education in secondary schools, both basic and extended, according to the new core curriculum in force from 2019. It contains a cartographic guide that is intended to introduce students to the world of maps and show them that they contain a lot of information that is much more difficult to digest in a descriptive form, that many conclusions can be drawn based on maps, especially with regard to the distribution and variability of objects and phenomena, and finally, that using maps is not difficult and gives a lot of satisfaction. In addition to explanations of concepts and rules for creating and using maps, it contains sample tasks with solutions. The atlas contains many maps and representations illustrating new trends and processes both on a global scale, as well as on individual continents and in Poland. For example, in the world the following were shown: expenditure on research and development, the location of the largest technopolises and the importance of the advanced technology industry; share of renewable sources in energy production; the importance of organic farming and GMO crops; effects of climate warming. In turn, in Poland, the trend of climate warming was captured by presenting changes in the length of the growing season and average monthly air temperatures (based on long-term averages), and changes in domestic agriculture were signaled through the use of EU funds. Examples of regional problems in the natural environment are maps of the large hydroelectric power plants of the Three Gorges Dam (China - the Yangtze River) and Gibe III (Ethiopia - the Omo River; impact on the distant Lake Turkana), and social problems include the migration crisis in Europe and the tragic situation of the African population. The economic maps of the continents were presented in an analytical manner. Traditional raw material industrial districts and mining are shown separately, large centers of processing industry, including high technologies, separately energy and pipeline transport along with undersea optical fibers responsible for the global Internet, separately services of supra-local importance (including tourism) and finally agriculture separately. Much attention was devoted to changes and threats to the natural environment and its protection, on a global and regional scale, including in Poland. A representation of the constellations and a very necessary map of the world's soils and river systems have also been added. The atlas includes many new maps not previously published either in Demart atlases or in any other school or general use atlases. Here you will find, among others: maps showing current events: the COVID-19 pandemic, the war in Ukraine and related migrations. It will certainly be a very valuable help throughout the entire teaching cycle for students, especially for high school graduates choosing geography as an additional subject in the secondary school leaving examination.
