Algoral

Algoral is available in a box of 36 chewable tablets, each tablet containing sodium alginate (200 mg), alginic acid (50 mg), sodium bicarbonate (80 mg) and calcium carbonate (140 mg).

Algoral Infant is also available as an oral suspension in a 210 ml bottle. It contains sodium alginate and simethicone and is intended for use in infants, children and adults.

Algoral Protect comes in 20 sachets containing sodium alginate and tamarind extract.

Algoral is indicated in several situations:

• Treatment of acid and non-acid gastro-oesophageal reflux;
• Management of symptoms such as heartburn, bloating, stomach pain and associated dyspepsia;
• Protection of the esophageal mucosa from irritation caused by stomach acid;
• Reducing stomach gas pressure and eliminating gas.

Algoral can be used by adults as well as by children and infants, depending on the specific pharmaceutical form and doctor's recommendations.

The dosing regimen for Algoral chewable tablets involves taking 2 chewable tablets after each main meal for adults and children over 12 years of age, and for children aged 6 to 12 years, 1 chewable tablet after each main meal is recommended.

The tablets should be chewed slowly or allowed to dissolve in the mouth, followed by a glass of water.

For Algoral Infant, adults can take 5-15 ml 2-3 times daily after meals, while children can receive 5 ml 1-3 times daily after meals as recommended by their doctor. For infants, 5 ml should be given 1-2 times daily or as directed by your doctor.

Algoral is contraindicated in the following situations:

• Hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients
• Chronic constipation or chronic diarrhea
• Severe kidney disease
• Chronic heart failure

If you suffer from severe chronic diseases it is advisable to seek advice from your doctor before taking this product.

Algoral is suitable for pregnant or breast-feeding women, but only under the supervision of a doctor.

Caution is advised in patients receiving concomitant therapies, as it may interfere with the absorption of certain drugs.

Side effects are rare and include:

• Transient constipation or diarrhea;
• Bloating or abdominal discomfort;
• Allergic reactions in cases of hypersensitivity to the components.

If severe side effects occur, the use of the product should be discontinued and the patient should consult a doctor.

Algoral may interfere with the absorption of concomitantly administered drugs in particular:

• Certain antibiotics, such as ampicillin
• Corticosteroids
• Aspirin and other salicylates
• Thyroid medications
• Iron supplements

To reduce the risk of interactions, other medicines should be taken at least 2 hours apart from Algoral.

Tell your doctor about any other medicines you are taking to avoid possible interactions.

Overdosage with Algoral is unlikely, but may lead to gastrointestinal symptoms. Overdose symptoms may include nausea, vomiting, bloating, diarrhea, or constipation.

If an overdose is suspected, seek immediate medical attention. It is important to follow the recommended daily dose to prevent such situations.

Store Algoral in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Check shelf life before use and follow storage instructions to maintain product integrity. Keep out of the reach of children.
