Ipakitine

Ipakitine is available as an oral powder, packaged in bottles of various sizes to facilitate treatment adjustment according to the duration of therapy and the animal’s needs. 

The product is available in 60 g, 180 g and 300 g bottles, each pack including a measuring spoon for accurate dosing. The powder form allows for easy mixing with the animal’s food.

Ipakitine dogs and cats is particularly indicated for supporting renal function in dogs and cats diagnosed with chronic renal failure. This condition may be associated with the accumulation of phosphorus and toxic products resulting from protein metabolism, which contributes to the worsening of uraemic symptoms and the progression of renal damage.

Through its mechanism of action, Ipakitine helps reduce the intestinal absorption of phosphorus and binds certain uraemic toxins, facilitating their elimination from the body. Thus, the product can support the management of hyperphosphataemia, a common complication in chronic kidney disease.

Ipakitine is administered orally by mixing the powder into the animal’s daily feed.

The recommended dose is 1 g of product per 5 kg of body weight, administered twice daily, in the morning and evening. A measuring spoon included in the pack contains approximately 1 g of powder, allowing for precise and easy dosing. 

During administration, it is important to ensure constant access to fresh water, as adequate hydration is an essential element in the management of chronic kidney disease.

Ipakitine is intended exclusively for use in dogs and cats and must not be administered to other animal species. Furthermore, the product must not be used in cases of known hypersensitivity to any of its ingredients.

This product should be administered with caution to animals with lactose intolerance or allergies to soya proteins, as it contains lactose and soya hydrolysate.

Ipakitine should be used under veterinary supervision, particularly in animals with advanced renal failure or associated comorbidities.

Regular monitoring of biochemical parameters, such as creatinine, urea and serum phosphorus, is recommended to assess the efficacy of treatment.

In general, Ipakitine is well tolerated by dogs and cats when administered as recommended. Adverse effects are rare and may include mild digestive disturbances, such as gastrointestinal discomfort or transient changes in stool consistency.

If any unusual or persistent reactions occur, administration should be discontinued and consultation with a vet is recommended.

Ipakitine may be administered concurrently with other veterinary therapies used in the management of chronic renal failure, including special renal diets and medicines prescribed by the vet.

However, administration in accordance with the specialist’s instructions is recommended, as some medicines or mineral supplements may affect the balance of phosphorus and calcium in the body.

No significant cases of overdose have been reported when used as directed. However, administration of excessive amounts may cause digestive disturbances or mineral imbalances.

In the event of accidental ingestion of a large quantity of the product, it is recommended to consult a vet to assess the animal’s condition and determine the appropriate course of action.

Ipakitine must be stored in its original packaging, protected from moisture and heat sources, at room temperature. The bottle must be closed properly after each use to prevent the product from deteriorating.

The product must also be stored out of the reach of children and animals.
