Serenoa

Serenoa from Pro Natura is available in capsule form and contains 0.190 g of Serenoa repens extract per capsule.

It is available in bottles of 60 capsules, as well as in an extended version of 200 capsules, thus facilitating long-term treatment.

Serenoa is recommended for the following conditions and clinical situations:

• Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH): by inhibiting the conversion of testosterone to DHT, Serenoa repens extract reduces prostate congestion and alleviates associated urinary symptoms (weak stream, frequent urination, feeling of incomplete emptying)
• Androgenetic alopecia: by acting on the enzymes involved in hormone metabolism, it can help slow hair loss and stimulate regeneration
• Liver function disorders: thanks to its silymarin content, which has a hepatoprotective effect, stabilising the hepatocyte membrane and supporting cell regeneration, it is useful in acute and chronic hepatitis or convalescence

The recommended dosage is 1 capsule 3 times a day, preferably taken with meals to facilitate the absorption of the active substances. The duration of treatment varies between 4 and 6 months, depending on the clinical indication and the individual response of the patient.

Regular assessment of liver and urinary function is recommended to adjust the treatment regimen accordingly.

Serenoa should not be used in the following situations:

• Known hypersensitivity to Serenoa repens, silymarin or any of the product's excipients
• Pregnancy and breastfeeding (there's not enough info on how safe it is for pregnant women)
• Kids under 18 (this product is only for adults)
• Patients with severe hormone disorders, including hormone-dependent neoplasms (check with your doctor first)

Although Serenoa is well tolerated in most cases, caution is advised in patients with a history of liver disease or endocrine disorders.

The product should not be used as a substitute for prescribed drug therapy in advanced benign prostatic hyperplasia. Regular monitoring of urinary symptoms is essential, and if there is no therapeutic response after 3 months, the indication should be re-evaluated.

The product is generally well tolerated, with a low incidence of adverse reactions. However, in isolated cases, the following may occur:

• Mild digestive disorders (nausea, dyspepsia, bloating)
• Headache, dizziness or irritability (rare)
• Skin allergic reactions (rash, itching)

These symptoms are generally transient and disappear when treatment is discontinued.

Serenoa repens extract may interact with:

• Anticoagulants (warfarin, aspirin, heparins) – may increase the risk of bleeding
• Hormonal medications – caution is advised in combination with hormonal therapies for prostate disorders or infertility.

Clinical data on Serenoa overdose are limited. However, in case of accidental ingestion of large doses, symptoms such as severe nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, drowsiness or severe dizziness may occur. In such cases, general symptomatic measures should be taken and medical advice should be sought.

The product should be stored in its original packaging, in a dry place, away from direct light and at temperatures below 25°C. Keep out of the reach of children to prevent accidental ingestion.
