Description

Aspirin Cardio is a medication used to prevent blood clots. It contains acetylsalicylic acid, which, when used long-term in low doses, inhibits platelet clumping.

Composition

The active substance of the drug is acetylsalicylic acid ( Acidum acetylsalicylicum ).

1 coated tablet contains 100 mg of acetylsalicylic acid (ASA) as the active substance ( Acidum acetylsalicylicum )

Excipients: powdered cellulose, corn starch, methacrylic acid-methyl acrylate copolymer, polysorbate 80, sodium lauryl sulfate, talc, triethyl citrate.

Dosage

Always take this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as your doctor has told you.

The drug should be taken orally at least 30 minutes before a meal, swallowing the tablet whole with plenty of water. When treating a heart attack, the film-coated tablet should be crushed or chewed and swallowed.

Action

The effect of Aspirin Cardio is due to the presence of salicylic acid, which, when taken for a long time in small doses, inhibits the clumping (aggregation) of platelets, which prevents the formation of clots.

Indications

Aspirin Cardio is indicated in adults for the following cardiovascular diseases: unstable angina; recent heart attack or suspected recent heart attack; prevention of recurrent heart attack; prevention of thromboembolic complications after surgical or interventional vascular procedures (e.g. percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA), coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), carotid endarterectomy, arteriovenous shunt); prevention of transient ischemic attack (TIA) and ischemic stroke in patients with TIA; prevention of a first heart attack in patients with multiple risk factors; prevention of deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism in patients with long-term immobilization, e.g. after major surgery as an adjunct to other preventive methods.

Contraindications

When not to use Aspirin Cardio: if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to the active substance - acetylsalicylic acid, other salicylates or any of the other ingredients of the medicine; if you are taking methotrexate in doses of 15 mg per week or more; if you have a bleeding diathesis; acute gastric and/or duodenal ulcer; severe renal failure; severe liver failure; severe heart failure; if you have had bronchial asthma attacks caused by the administration of salicylates or substances with a similar effect, especially non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs; in the last trimester of pregnancy; in children up to 12 years of age in the course of viral infections due to the risk of Reye's syndrome - a rare but serious disease causing damage to the liver and brain.

Side effects

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

Gastrointestinal complaints, such as: dyspepsia symptoms (heartburn, nausea, vomiting), abdominal pain, rarely gastrointestinal inflammation; gastric and/or duodenal ulcers, very rarely leading to hemorrhage and perforation with corresponding laboratory and clinical symptoms. In rare cases, transient liver dysfunction with increased transaminase activity has been reported.

Hypersensitivity reactions, e.g. in the form of skin reactions, hives, rash, itching, cardiorespiratory disorders, asthma attacks, swelling, rhinitis, nasal congestion.

Dizziness and tinnitus, especially in children and the elderly, are usually symptoms of overdose.

Due to the effect of acetylsalicylic acid on platelet aggregation, the risk of bleeding and prolongation of bleeding time and prothrombin time are increased during treatment with Aspirin Cardio; a decrease in platelet count may also occur. Bleeding events such as perioperative hemorrhage, hematomas, epistaxis, urogenital bleeding, and gingival bleeding have been observed. Serious bleeding events such as gastrointestinal hemorrhage and cerebral hemorrhage have been reported rarely or very rarely (especially in patients with uncontrolled arterial hypertension and/or concomitant administration of antihemorrhagic drugs), which can be potentially life-threatening in isolated cases. Hemorrhage may lead to acute or chronic anemia and/or iron deficiency anemia (e.g., due to occult microbleeds) with corresponding laboratory and clinical symptoms, such as asthenia (fatigue), pallor, hypoperfusion (reduced blood flow).

Warnings and precautions

Aspirin Cardio film-coated tablets should be used with caution in the following cases: first and second trimester of pregnancy and during lactation, hypersensitivity to NSAIDs and antirheumatic drugs, in patients with impaired renal, circulatory or hepatic function, as well as in people who have previously suffered from peptic ulcer disease or gastrointestinal bleeding.

This medication may cause bronchospasm and asthma attacks or other allergic reactions, especially in patients with bronchial asthma, chronic respiratory diseases, hay fever, nasal polyps, or those who have allergic reactions (e.g., skin reactions, itching, hives) to other substances. Acetylsalicylic acid reduces the excretion of uric acid from the body, which may trigger a gout attack in people prone to gout.

You should inform your doctor about your use of Aspirin Cardio before any surgical procedures, including dental procedures.

Storage:

• Keep out of the sight and reach of children.
• Store at temperatures below 25 ºC.

Use of other medications

Tell your doctor or pharmacist about all the medicines you are taking, have recently taken or might take.

Aspirin Cardio may interact with: methotrexate; anticoagulants (e.g. coumarin derivatives, heparin), thrombolytic drugs (clot-dissolving drugs, e.g. streptokinase, urokinase) and platelet aggregation (clumping) inhibitors (e.g. ticlopidine); corticosteroids, other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, including other salicylates; alcohol; antigout drugs (used to treat gout); diuretics; certain antihypertensive drugs - angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors; metamizole; selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs); cyclosporine, tacrolimus.

Taking the medicine with food and drink

Aspirin Cardio film-coated tablets should be taken orally, preferably at least 30 minutes before a meal, with plenty of water.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.

Pregnancy:
Aspirin Cardio is contraindicated in the last trimester of pregnancy as it may cause complications during the perinatal period for both the mother and the newborn. During the first and second trimesters of pregnancy, Aspirin Cardio should be used only when absolutely necessary.

Breast-feeding:
Acetylsalicylic acid passes into the milk of breastfeeding women in small amounts.

Use of the drug in children and adolescents

The medicine should not be used in children and adolescents under 12 years of age.
