Removing embedded ticks almost always poses a problem for laypeople. Under no circumstances should oil or other substances be used to remove the tick, as this increases the risk of infection.
Ticks that have attached themselves can be grasped with Dr. Schick's tick tweezers and twisted out with 2-3 turns:
- Press push buttons
- Place the tweezers on the tick
- Slowly twist the tick out
The bite site should be disinfected after removing the tick. A tick should be removed as soon as possible, as this can potentially reduce the risk of infection.
