Neem is a tree native to India, also known as Azadirachta indica. Neem extracts have been used in traditional medicine since ancient times due to their antifungal, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties.

Forms of release

Neem-based products are available in several forms, namely:

neem oil
neem powder
neem tincture
Neem supplements

Indications for use

Neem-based products are recommended for treating acne, skin or hair problems such as eczema, psoriasis, dandruff and herpes. In terms of hair health, Neem-based products can strengthen hair strands and stimulate regeneration. Neem oil is also recommended for dry and cracked skin. It also helps eliminate mites and lice and can be used as an insect repellent or insecticide. Neem extracts have antifungal, anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties. Capsule supplements are recommended for digestive health and help reduce gastric secretion. This supplement can also have a hypoglycaemic effect, i.e. it can help reduce blood glucose levels.

Dosage and administration

Neem-based products are recommended for internal or external use, depending on the type of product. Neem oil is applied to the hair and scalp as a hair mask (in combination with other oils, such as jojoba oil, coconut oil, argan oil) or added to shampoo. It can also be used on the skin and complexion, either on its own or in combination with other products. Neem capsules are usually taken 1-2 capsules 3 times a day or as recommended by a doctor. Neem powder is mixed and dissolved in water, fruit juice or smoothies - usually 1-2 g twice a day.

How long should Neem be taken: Neem supplements are usually taken for 2-3 months or as directed by your doctor.

Contraindications

These products are contraindicated in case of allergy or sensitivity to the ingredients. Not recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding. They are usually contraindicated in children. Caution is advised in cases of diabetes, liver problems, coagulation problems or autoimmune diseases.

Interactions with other medicines and foods

No significant interactions are known, but it is always advisable to consult your doctor before starting to take a new supplement.

Side effects

This supplement is generally safe. However, in rare cases, it may cause allergic reactions, skin irritation or stomach discomfort. It is important to stop use and seek medical assistance in case of adverse reactions.

Overdose

As with any supplement, high doses may lead to adverse reactions. Do not take more than recommended.

Storage

Neem-based products should usually be stored in a cool, dark place, away from sunlight, heat and moisture. Neem oil becomes viscous at room temperature and forms small sediment clumps, with a strong odour and a brownish-green colour. However, it becomes fluid when heated.
