One moment of inattention and it's happened: During sports, you can quickly suffer a muscle strain, bruise, or sprain. Blunt injuries disrupt the circulation of blood and tissue fluid under the skin and can sometimes be quite painful. Swelling (edema) or bruising (hematomas) can occur. Injuries without joint involvement are generally harmless and usually heal quickly and without complications.

Weleda Arnica Ointment 30% is suitable for treating all blunt injuries such as sprains, strains, contusions, bruises, or hematomas. Especially in the case of stubborn hematomas, the ointment helps restore the natural circulation of blood and tissue fluid, thus supporting tissue regeneration. This can promote longer-lasting healing processes naturally.

Arnica ointment 30% is available in 25g or 70g tubes.

First aid for sprains, bruises & strains

In the case of a blunt injury, such as from twisting an ankle or falling, the activity should be stopped immediately. The affected body part should then be elevated, ideally above heart level, to reduce swelling and pain. Elevation reduces blood flow and allows tissue fluid to drain more effectively from the injured area. Sprains and strains heal faster when the affected area is cooled with cold compresses, ice packs, or even cold water. This not only relieves pain but also slows down the development of swelling. To prevent frostbite, a cloth should be placed between the ice pack or cold compress and the skin during cooling. Furthermore, cooling should not exceed 20 minutes, followed by a 10-minute break. Cooling can then be repeated if necessary. A light compression bandage or wrap also reduces swelling and bruising.

Arnica montana

Its botanical name is Arnica montana. This robust plant grows primarily in the mountains of Central and Southern Europe. Its healing properties have been known for centuries. More than 150 constituents have already been identified in this member of the daisy family. Arnica promotes blood circulation and stimulates metabolism, thus reducing swelling more quickly. Through its regenerative properties, arnica has a structuring effect, supports the breakdown of dead cell material, and restores order to the tissue. This further promotes healing. Weleda uses arnica in its products, among other things, to help the body recover from blunt injuries such as bruises, contusions, sprains, and bruises by restoring disrupted metabolic and regenerative processes and supporting skin and tissue function.
