Description
The Home Check Deficiency Test is a quick test to determine the ferritin level from a fingertip blood sample. The product is useful in the diagnosis of anemia. Gives results in just 5 minutes.
When to test your iron level?
The Home Check test can be performed if you have symptoms such as:
- pale skin,
- constant feeling of tiredness,
- headaches,
- fast heartbeat or shortness of breath during exercise,
- brittle hair and nails.
Ferritin testing is particularly indicated in the diagnosis of anemia, monitoring of therapy with iron preparations, as well as in the diagnosis of liver diseases and some cancers. It is also recommended for people at high risk, such as athletes, children, pregnant women, women with heavy periods, the elderly, vegans and people with absorption disorders. The test can be performed at any time of the day.
How does the Home Check iron deficiency test work?
The test determines the level of ferritin - a protein responsible for storing iron in the body. The test result is qualitative and can be:
- positive : means the normal level of ferritin in the blood - over 30 ng/ml;
- negative : it means a deficiency of ferritin in the blood - below 30 ng/ml. Low ferritin levels can indicate iron deficiency and anemia (anemia).
anemia (anemia)
Iron deficiency anemia is a common condition that occurs especially in children and menstruating women. Symptoms may include:
- pale skin,
- fatigue,
- headaches,
- fast heartbeat,
- shortness of breath during exercise.
Iron deficiency
Iron deficiency occurs when the blood does not contain enough red blood cells and therefore there is a low level of hemoglobin - a protein responsible for transporting oxygen in the body. Iron is an important component of hemoglobin.
Causes of iron deficiency
Iron deficiency can be caused by:
- increased demand (eg during pregnancy, during growth),
- insufficient intake of iron in the diet,
- absorption disorders (eg celiac disease),
- blood loss (eg heavy periods, gastrointestinal bleeding).
Low ferritin levels can also indicate:
- hypothyroidism,
- C deficiency,
- gastrointestinal diseases (for example, celiac disease).
It can also occur in people with restless legs syndrome, which is not directly related to anemia but to low iron stores.
