• Bifidobacterium, for example Bidifobacterium lactis. These are gram-positive bacteria present in the large intestine. They are naturally present in our body from the very beginning of life, because the newborn receives them while passing through the birth canal.
• Lactobacillus, such as Lactobacillus paracasei. Lactobacillus are gram-positive bacteria that are classified as lactic acid bacteria. Some of them participate in lactic acid fermentation. Lactobacillus plantarum has one of the largest genomes of lactic acid bacteria, and Lactobacillus rhamnosus is used in yogurts and other dairy products.
• Streptococcus thermophilus. This is a bacterium used in milk processing.
