The MyCare ^® Urinary Infection test for urinary infections is a test that detects the basic parameters that indicate a urinary tract infection. The in vitro diagnostic medical device qualitatively determines the presence of proteins, nitrites and leukocytes in the urine, which are symptoms of a urinary tract infection.

The urinary system consists of the urethra, bladder, ureter and kidneys. In most cases, urinary tract infections are caused by bacteria. Urinary tract infections suffer mainly from women whose short urethra favors the development of infection and from elderly men who have enlarged prostates that obstruct the flow of urine.

Urinary tract infections   it usually starts in the urethra and can spread to the upper urinary tract. Depending on the place of infection, we have different symptoms:

• lower urinary tract infection (urethra and bladder): burning sensation when urinating and strong urge to urinate,
• upper urinary tract infections (ureter and kidneys): symptoms similar to lower urinary tract infections and back pain, often fever and chills.

What parameters indicate a urinary tract infection?

The type of infection is first diagnosed by using test strips to detect the presence of proteins, white blood cells or nitrites and to classify the symptoms of the infection.

• Protein in the urine often occurs in chronic diseases such as diabetes and high blood pressure, and increasing amounts of protein in the urine reflect increasing kidney damage. If the presence of protein in the urine is accompanied by bacteria, there is a high probability that the cause is a urinary tract infection.
• Nitrites in the urine most often indicate a bacterial infection. A positive test result is one of the signals that indicate infection. The most common cause of the disease is the presence of Escherichia coli bacteria that live in the anal area.
• Leukocytes in the urine can be present under physiological conditions (the norm is 5 cells in the visual field). Their increased number often indicates an ongoing infection and disappears after eradication.
