Description

Grypolek is a medication that reduces the symptoms associated with the common cold. Grypolek relieves:

• fever,
• headache and muscle pain,
• cough,
• rhinitis.

Composition

The active substances of the drug are: paracetamol (Paracetamolum), guaifenesin (Guaifenesinum), pseudoephedrine hydrochloride (Pseudoephedrini hydrochloridum), dextromethorphan hydrobromide (Dextromethorphani hydrobromidum).

1 coated tablet contains:

• 325 mg paracetamol,
• 200 mg guaifenesin,
• 30 mg pseudoephedrine hydrochloride,
• 15 mg dextromethorphan hydrogen bromide.

Excipients:
tablet core: microcrystalline cellulose, pregelatinized starch, sodium carboxymethyl starch, colloidal silica, magnesium stearate.
Opadry Yellow Y-5-12821 coating: Hypromellose, Hydroxypropylmethylcellulose, titanium dioxide, macrogol; carnauba wax.

Dosage

Always use this medicine exactly as described in the package leaflet or as directed by your doctor or pharmacist. If you have any further questions, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

Usual doses of Gypolek:

Adults and children over 12 years: 2 tablets every 6 to 8 hours, not more than 8 tablets per day

Children from 6 to 12 years: 1 tablet every 6 to 8 hours, not more than 4 tablets per day.

Adults should not take Grypolek for more than 10 days, and children should not take it for more than 5 days.

Action

Grypolek is a symptomatic medication. Grypolek contains four active ingredients that alleviate specific cold symptoms.

• Paracetamol has antipyretic and analgesic effects.
• Pseudoephedrine hydrochloride constricts blood vessels, thus clearing the nose and sinuses, making breathing easier.
• Dextromethorphan hydrobromide has an effective antitussive effect, especially in cases of dry, irritating cough.
• Guaifenesin is an expectorant that irritates the gastric mucosa and reflexively increases the secretion of the bronchial mucous glands.

Indications

Grypolek is used in general colds accompanied by:

• headache and muscle pain,
• fever,
• sore throat,
• rhinitis,
• coughing.

Contraindications

When not to use Grypolek?

• Hypersensitivity to the active substances or to any of the excipients.
• Hypertension, heart disease, diabetes, hyperthyroidism, difficulty urinating due to prostate disease, severe renal and liver failure, anemia.

Side effects

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

The active substances contained in Grypolek rarely cause the following side effects:

• nausea, vomiting, heartburn,
• liver dysfunction,
• heart rhythm disturbances, changes in blood pressure,
• changes in the blood morphology, such as: anemia, methemoglobinemia, agranulocytosis,
• dizziness, disturbances of vision, sensation and taste,
• drowsiness, anxiety, nervousness, hallucinations, psychomotor agitation,
• renal dysfunction, urolithiasis and urinary retention.

The drug may cause asthma attacks and skin changes.

Warnings and precautions

• Do not use doses higher than recommended.
• You should consult a doctor if your cough lasts longer than 7 days or your fever lasts longer than 3 days.
• The use of the preparation in patients with liver failure, alcohol abusers and malnourished patients increases the risk of liver damage.
• Alcohol should not be consumed while using the preparation due to the increased risk of toxic liver damage.
• Caution should be exercised when using the preparation in people with slow metabolism, e.g. elderly people, due to the increased likelihood of adverse effects associated with the use of dextromethorphan.
• The medicine contains azo dyes that may cause allergic reactions.
• Store the medicine at room temperature.
• Keep the medicine out of the sight and reach of children.

Use of other medications

Please tell your doctor or pharmacist about all the medicines you are taking, have recently taken or might take, including medicines obtained without a prescription.

Grypolek may interact with the following medications:

• containing paracetamol,
• antiepileptics,
• rifampicin, barbiturates,
• anticoagulants.
• MAO inhibitors (at least 14 days break),
• guantedine, methyldopa,
• medications used to treat depression,
• drugs used in Parkinson's disease.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.

Grypolek should not be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Use of the drug in children and adolescents

Do not use in children under 6 years of age.
