HYLO GEL® is specifically formulated for the needs of chronically dry eyes and severe forms of dry eye syndrome. Due to its high hyaluronic acid content, the highly viscous drops adhere particularly well to the surface of the eye. Persistent and severe symptoms such as itching, a foreign body sensation, redness, and burning are relieved, and the eye is protected from irritation. HYLO GEL® eye drops are also a good choice for supporting the healing process after eye surgery. The convenient COMOD® system guarantees precise dosing, a high yield of at least 300 drops, and a long shelf life of 6 months. HYLO GEL® eye drops are free of preservatives and phosphates and are therefore very well tolerated. HYLO GEL® moisturizing eye drops are available without a prescription, but can be prescribed. HYLO GEL® eye drops contain hyaluronic acid, a substance that occurs naturally in some parts of the body, including the eye. Due to its high hyaluronic acid content of 0.2%, HYLO GEL® is highly viscous and forms a stable protective film on the irritated surface of the eye. The conjunctiva and cornea are intensively and lastingly moisturized. Despite its gel-like consistency, vision is not impaired. HYLO GEL® eye drops can also be used with hard and soft contact lenses.

HYLO GEL® is the first prescription-only medical device for eye lubrication in Germany. In certain cases, the costs can be reimbursed by statutory health insurance if therapeutically necessary. These lubricating eye drops can be prescribed by a physician in accordance with Annex V of the German Drug Prescription Guidelines for patients with absent or damaged lacrimal glands, various autoimmune diseases, facial nerve paralysis (facial palsy) , and incomplete eyelid closure (lagophthalmos) .

How often should I use HYLO GEL® eye drops daily?
HYLO GEL® eye drops provide intensive and long-lasting lubrication for severe and chronic forms of dry eye. Adjust the dosage of the eye drops according to your individual needs and/or the recommendations of your ophthalmologist. Generally, one drop of HYLO GEL® is instilled into the conjunctival sac of each eye three times a day. For more severe symptoms, the eye drops can be used more frequently. If you are using HYLO GEL® in addition to another eye drop medication, please allow at least 30 minutes between applications. In this case, HYLO GEL® should be administered last. If you are also using an eye ointment, apply it to the conjunctival sac after using HYLO GEL®.

What do I need to be aware of when using HYLO GEL® with contact lenses?
HYLO GEL® is also compatible with contact lenses. After inserting your contact lenses, it is recommended to wait approximately 30 minutes before using the lubricating eye drops. This helps avoid potential adverse reactions due to interactions between contact lens solutions and HYLO GEL®. Due to the gel-like consistency of the eye drops, temporary streaking may occur immediately after instillation. This generally disappears after a few blinks.

How can I ensure my eyes are adequately moisturized overnight?
HYLO GEL®, with its highly viscous hyaluronic acid, ensures particularly good adhesion to the eye's surface and a long-lasting moisturizing effect that lasts well into the night. If you suffer from severe dry eye symptoms, especially at night, the use of the eye drops can be supplemented with a moisturizing eye ointment such as HYLO NIGHT®. This ointment, containing vitamin A, spreads easily across the eye's surface and improves the tear film.

What are the advantages of preservative-free eye drops?
Preservatives are used in many preparations to prevent pathogenic germs from entering the eyes. If eye drops cannot be kept sterile, bacteria and fungi can easily multiply, potentially entering the eye during application and causing infections. However, preservatives often cannot provide complete protection against germs and can also trigger adverse reactions. HYLO GEL®, like all other eye drops in the HYLO® product family, is deliberately preservative-free. This is made possible by the unique COMOD® system, which keeps the liquid sterile and airtight. Thus, the eye drops remain stable for 6 months after opening, even without preservatives. The absence of preservatives offers two advantages: HYLO® eye drops are particularly well-tolerated. Furthermore, only preservative-free medical devices are suitable for postoperative care, as preservatives can otherwise delay proper wound healing.
