Bioprotect is a veterinary nutritional supplement for dogs and cats, designed to maintain and restore the balance of the gastrointestinal microflora. The integrity of the gut microbiota plays an essential role in the efficient digestion of nutrients, the functioning of the immune system and the protection of the body against colonisation by pathogenic bacteria.
Forms of supply
Bioprotect is available in two pharmaceutical forms tailored to different clinical situations and the needs of pets: capsules or oral paste.
Bioprotect capsules are the standard form of administration for supporting the gut microbiota in the short to medium term. They contain a combination of probiotics and prebiotics, such as Enterococcus faecium and Lactobacillus rhamnosus, alongside MOS (mannan-oligosaccharides) and FOS (fructo-oligosaccharides).
The 15 ml oral paste with a dosing syringe is intended specifically for acute episodes of diarrhoea or severe digestive disorders.
Indications for use
Bioprotect VetExpert is indicated in various situations where the intestinal microbiota of dogs or cats is disturbed or at risk of imbalance. The main indications include:
- disorders of the gastrointestinal microflora;
- concomitant administration with antibiotic treatments;
- episodes of acute or subacute diarrhoea;
- the recovery period following digestive disorders;
- administration following internal antiparasitic treatments;
- predisposition to constipation;
- supporting the development of the microbiota in young animals;
- prevention of intestinal dysbiosis in susceptible animals.
Through its mechanisms of action, the product helps to inhibit the proliferation of pathogenic bacteria, regulate the intestinal microbiota and stimulate local immunity in the gut.
Dosage regimen
The capsules may be administered directly into the animal’s mouth or mixed with its feed. During antibiotic treatment, it is recommended to administer one capsule per day, continuing for up to 7 days after the end of therapy. For growing animals, administer 1 capsule per day for 20 days; in cases of diarrhoea or a tendency towards constipation, the recommended dose is 2 capsules per day for approximately 10 days; following internal deworming, it is recommended to administer 1 capsule per day for 7 days.
The oral paste form is administered orally for approximately 3 days or as recommended by the veterinarian, with the dose determined according to body weight.
Contraindications
Vet Expert Bioprotect has no major contraindications when administered in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations. However, use of the product should be avoided in cases of known hypersensitivity to any of its components.
Furthermore, if the animal has severe or persistent digestive disorders, it is recommended to consult a vet before administering the supplement.
Special instructions for use
Bioprotect for dogs and cats should be administered in accordance with the instructions on the packaging or as recommended by a vet. The product is intended for veterinary use only.
In cases of severe diarrhoea, the product should be used as part of an integrated therapeutic approach, which may include rehydration, a specific diet and, if necessary, medication.
Side effects
Bioprotect for cats and dogs is generally well tolerated. In most cases, its administration is not associated with significant adverse reactions.
Occasionally, mild digestive disturbances may occur, such as transient bloating or temporary changes in stool consistency, as a result of the intestinal flora adapting to probiotic supplementation.
Interactions with other medicines and food
Bioprotect probiotic can be administered concurrently with most veterinary medicines and the animal’s regular feed. It is frequently used alongside antibiotic treatments to prevent or reduce intestinal dysbiosis.
For maximum effectiveness, it is recommended to administer probiotics several hours apart from antibiotics to avoid inactivation of the beneficial microorganisms.
Overdose
No significant cases of overdose have been reported following the administration of Bioprotect in accordance with the instructions. However, the administration of excessive amounts may lead to mild digestive disturbances.
If an overdose is suspected, it is recommended that you consult your vet immediately to assess the animal’s condition.
Storage conditions
The product must be stored in a dry place, protected from moisture and direct sunlight. The recommended storage temperature is a maximum of 25°C. The product must also be kept in its original packaging and kept out of the reach of children.
