Fucoxanthin
Description Fucoxanthin
The information in the FAQ section was created by the Liki24.co.uk team and is based on the official manufacturer's manual
Fucoxanthin is a natural carotenoid compound derived from brown algae (such as Laminaria japonica – Kombu), known for its complex biological properties, which include antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects and, in particular, its role in regulating body weight and lipid and carbohydrate metabolism. Fucoxanthin belongs to the xanthophyll class and has superior biological activity compared to other marine carotenoids.
Forms of release
Solaray Fucoxanthin supplement is available in vegetable capsules, a practical and safe pharmaceutical form suitable for vegetarians and vegans. Each capsule contains 200 mg of standardised Kombu (Laminaria japonica) extract, equivalent to 2 mg of fucoxanthin (1%) and 85% fucoidans.
The vegetarian capsules are easy to swallow, contain no colourings, preservatives or animal-derived ingredients, and can be taken as part of any balanced diet.
Indications for use
Fucoxanthin is mainly recommended for:
- Weight control – by reducing the size of adipocytes, stimulating lipolysis and increasing thermogenesis;
- Supporting cardiovascular health – by maintaining normal total cholesterol, LDL and HDL levels, as well as reducing triglycerides;
- Regulating carbohydrate metabolism – by helping to maintain normal glucose, insulin and leptin levels;
- Supporting inflammatory balance – by reducing pro-inflammatory cytokines (such as TNF-α) and limiting the formation of advanced glycation end products (AGEs);
- Improving neuromuscular and cognitive function – thanks to its antioxidant effects and ability to support mitochondrial integrity;
- Strengthening immunity – through the synergistic action of fucoxanthin and fucoidans on the immune system and tissue regeneration processes.
Through these mechanisms, supplementation with Fucoxanthin brown algae becomes a valuable nutritional support in weight management, dyslipidaemia prevention and overall metabolic health support.
Dosage
The recommended dose is 1 capsule per day, taken with a meal and approximately 200 ml of water, or as recommended by a specialist.
Concomitant administration with foods containing healthy fats (e.g. extra virgin olive oil, avocado, fatty fish) may improve the absorption of fucoxanthin, which is a fat-soluble substance.
In case of long-term use, periodic monitoring of the lipid and carbohydrate profile is recommended.
Contraindications
Fucoxanthin is not recommended for:
- young children and adolescents under 18 years of age;
- pregnant or breastfeeding women;
- people who wish to become pregnant;
- people with allergies to any of the ingredients (seaweed, plant-based excipients);
Caution is advised for people with severe liver, thyroid or kidney disease and those undergoing chronic drug treatment.
Special instructions for use
As the product contains ingredients of natural origin, variations in colour, smell or appearance may occur between batches, without affecting the quality, efficacy or safety of the product.
Each batch of raw material is tested for purity, bioavailability and absence of contaminants in accordance with international GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) standards.
The product is compatible with vegetarian and vegan diets and does not contain gluten, lactose, soy or genetically modified organisms.
Side effects
Fucoxanthin is generally well tolerated. In rare cases, the following may occur:
- minor stomach discomfort, nausea or reflux, especially when taken on an empty stomach;
- allergic skin reactions (itching, rashes) in people sensitive to marine compounds;
These symptoms are usually reversible and can be avoided by taking the product with food.
Interactions with other medicines and foods
Fucoxanthin may interact with anticoagulant medicines (warfarin, acenocoumarol) due to possible effects on coagulation.
Alcohol consumption during treatment may reduce the metabolic efficacy of fucoxanthin and affect liver function.
Overdose
No cases of severe overdose with fucoxanthin algae have been reported. Taking higher than recommended doses may cause digestive disorders (nausea, bloating, diarrhoea) and headaches. In case of accidental ingestion of an excessive dose, hydration and medical consultation are recommended.
Storage
The product should be stored in its original packaging at room temperature (below 25°C), away from moisture, direct light and heat sources. Keep out of the reach and sight of small children.
