Ocuvite

Its complex formula contains essential antioxidant vitamins (vitamins C and E), minerals (zinc and selenium) and lutein and zeaxanthin (carotenoids) and Omega 3.

Carotenoids are yellow/orange pigments found in vegetables and fruits, especially in green leafy vegetables such as spinach.

All the components of Ocuvite are important for the proper functioning of the body's defence system against free radicals (highly reactive metabolites) resulting from oxidation processes. The body needs to continuously inactivate these free radicals through its own protection system. If these two processes are in balance, the body is not affected by oxidative stress. Free radicals are involved in numerous pathological processes such as heart disease, neurological disorders and eye diseases that occur in the elderly.

The carotenoids, minerals and vitamins in Ocuvite cannot be synthesised by the human body. They are called ‘essential’ because they can only be provided by food and/or dietary supplements.

Omega 3 plays an essential role in the development and maintenance of visual acuity.

All these micronutrients play an essential role in protecting vision by reducing oxidative stress, fighting inflammation, inhibiting neurovascularisation, increasing macular pigment density and stabilising retinal function.

Ocuvite Complete is recommended for people with dry eye syndrome, cataracts and AMD (age-related macular degeneration), both as a preventive measure and to reduce the risk of disease progression in patients with advanced stages.

The Ocuvite formula contributes in particular to the proper nutrition of the eye, given that both lutein and zeaxanthin are commonly found in this structure. Increased concentrations of these are found in the macula, the area of the eye responsible for central vision.

Ocuvite Complete is administered 1-2 capsules per day, during meals, with sufficient water. The product has no contraindications and does not cause adverse effects. It can be used safely over the long term.

Unlike Ocuvite Complete, Ocuvite Lutein Forte has double the concentration of all ingredients: lutein, zeaxanthin, vitamin C, vitamin E, selenium and zinc.

The indications and method of administration are similar to Ocuvite Complete.

There is also Ocuvite lutein Premium, which is gluten-free, lactose-free and low in sugar, suitable for people with diabetes.

Ocuvite Alpha is a product containing lipoic acid, vitamin E, blueberry extract, anthocyanins, vitamin C, vitamin B1 and vitamin B12.

Blueberry extract has the following properties:

• supports eye health and visual processes
• protects the retina in people with high blood sugar levels
• improves night vision
• ensures proper functioning and integrity of capillaries and veins
• protects cell membranes
• against the destructive action of free radicals

Lipoic acid has an antioxidant effect, i.e. it neutralises free radicals.
