Use

Outline your lips directly with the lip liner.

To achieve an ombre effect, outline your lips with a lip liner in a shade slightly darker than your lipstick, slightly extending beyond your natural lip line. Blend the liner inward with a brush. Then fill in the center of your lips with a lighter lipstick.
