Luteinizing hormone (LH) together with follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) stimulate egg maturation. The increase in the concentration of LH occurs 40 hours before ovulation, when the most suitable moment for fertilization of the egg is conception. Ovulation itself lasts only 12-24 hours. The ovulation test will help determine the exact time and increase the chances of pregnancy. Normally, LH is found in the urine of non-ovulating women, men and children in very low concentration. It increases 3- to 4-fold during puberty and in menopausal women.
