ProblemCerumen is an oily, wax-like substance produced by the ceruminous glands in the external auditory canal.
Normally, it has a protective and emollient function and, because it tends to flow outward, it helps keep the ear clean.
When there is an excess of earwax, it no longer flows outward as it should and begins to accumulate inside the ear canal, causing obstruction, also known as a wax plug.
