Cirrus Duo is a medicinal product with antiallergic and nasal decongestant properties, for use in cases of nasal congestion and inflammation of the nasal mucosa (sneezing, runny nose, itching, allergies).
Composition of Cirrus Duo (Cirrus) 5 mg+120 mg
The active substances are: pseudoephedrine ( Pseudoephedrini hydrochloridum ) and cetirizine ( Cetirizini dihydrochloridum ).
1 tablet contains 5 mg of cetirizine dihydrochloride (in immediate release form) and 120 mg of pseudoephedrine hydrochloride (in prolonged release form).
Excipients: immediate-release layer : lactose monohydrate, microcrystalline cellulose, croscarmellose sodium, colloidal anhydrous silica, magnesium stearate; prolonged-release layer : hypromellose, microcrystalline cellulose, colloidal anhydrous silica, magnesium stearate; Opadry Y-1-7000 white coating : hypromellose, titanium dioxide (E 171), macrogol 400.
Cirrus Duo (Cirrus) Dosage 5 mg+120 mg
Always use this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as advised by your doctor or pharmacist.
- A drug for oral use.
- Cirrus should be taken with or between meals.
- Tablets must not be crushed, split, chewed, or divided. Swallow whole.
- If symptoms worsen or do not improve after 5 days, consult your doctor.
- The medicine should not be used for longer than 2-3 weeks.
Adolescents over 12 years of age and adults: 1 tablet 2 times a day (morning and evening).
Patients with moderate renal or hepatic impairment: the dose should be reduced to 1 tablet per day.
Action of Cirrus Duo (Cirrus), 5 mg+120 mg, extended-release tablets
Cirrus Duo contains two active ingredients, which provide antiallergic (cetirizine) and nasal decongestant (pseudoephedrine) effects, respectively. Pseudoephedrine constricts blood vessels in the nasal mucosa. Cirrus Duo relieves symptoms associated with perennial and seasonal allergic rhinitis.
Indications
Symptomatic treatment of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis (nasal congestion, sneezing, watery nasal discharge - runny nose, itching of the nose and conjunctiva).
Contraindications
When not to use Cirrus Duo:
- if you are allergic to the active substances of the drug (cetirizine, pseudoephedrine), ephedrine, piperazine or its derivatives or any of the other ingredients of this drug,
- if you have severe arterial hypertension, severe coronary heart disease, severe renal failure, decompensated hyperthyroidism, severe cardiac arrhythmias, pheochromocytoma, glaucoma, increased intraocular pressure,
- if you have urinary retention,
- if the patient has had a stroke,
- if the patient is at high risk of hemorrhagic stroke,
- if you are taking medications such as dihydroergotamine, MAO inhibitors (or have taken MAO inhibitors in the last two weeks),
- in persons under 12 years of age.
Side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
Common side effects (affects 1 to 10 people in 100):
- insomnia, nervousness, drowsiness,
- headaches, dizziness,
- accelerated heartbeat,
- dryness of the oral mucosa,
- nausea,
- weakness.
Uncommon side effects (affects 1 to 10 people in 1,000):
- stimulation,
- anxiety.
Rare side effects (affects 1 to 10 people in 10,000):
- convulsions, tremors,
- heart rhythm disturbances,
- dry skin, rash, hives, increased sweating,
- high blood pressure,
- hypersensitivity reactions,
- hallucinations,
- paleness,
- painful/difficult urination.
Very rare side effects (affecting less than 1 in 10,000 people):
- taste disturbances,
- drug rash,
- angioedema,
- circulatory collapse,
- psychotic disorders.
Frequency unknown:
- blurred vision, accommodation disorders, unusual pupil dilation, eye pain, decreased vision, abnormal visual tolerance of light,
- erectile dysfunction,
- heart palpitations,
- dyspnoea,
- skin reactions with fever and pimples.
Warnings and precautions
- Caution should be exercised if the patient has: diabetes, hyperthyroidism, hypertension, ischemic heart disease, cardiac arrhythmias, moderate renal or hepatic impairment.
- Use with caution in elderly patients, if the patient is taking sympathomimetic drugs (e.g., nasal decongestants, appetite suppressants), TCAs, antihypertensive drugs, CNS depressants, cardiac glycosides (digoxin), in patients with prostatic hypertrophy or difficulty urinating.
- Caution should be exercised if the patient has risk factors for hemorrhagic stroke.
- The combined use of pseudoephedrine and NSAIDs may lead to an increase in blood pressure.
- Patients with impaired kidney or liver function should consult a doctor before using the drug.
- The medicine contains lactose - discuss the use of the medicine with your doctor if you have an intolerance to some sugars.
- Keep the medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
Use of other medications
Please tell your doctor or pharmacist about all the medicines you are taking, have recently taken or might take, including medicines obtained without a prescription.
Cirrus Duo can interact with:
- MAO inhibitors and dihydroergotamine (combining these drugs with Cirrus Duo is contraindicated),
- TLPD,
- vasoconstrictor drugs (bromocriptine, ergotamine),
- nasal decongestants (phenylephrine, ephedrine),
- drugs that lower blood pressure (e.g. beta-blockers),
- cardiac glycosides (digoxin, digitoxin),
- drugs that depress the CNS, e.g. sedatives,
- antacids and proton pump inhibitors,
- theophylline,
- ritonavir,
- NSAIDs.
Taking the medicine with food and drink
Cirrus Duo can be taken with or between meals.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Cirrus Duo should not be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding (cetirizine and pseudoephedrine pass into breast milk).
Impact on laboratory tests
The drug may affect the results of allergy skin tests.
Use of the drug in children and adolescents
The medicine should not be used in persons under 12 years of age.
Driving and operating machinery
Cirrus Duo may cause drowsiness and dizziness. If you experience these symptoms, do not drive or operate machinery.
The individual response to the drug and the possibility of side effects should be taken into account.
At recommended doses, cetirizine had no significant effect on psychophysical performance.
