What are enzymes?
• highly specialized catalysts
• facilitate and accelerate biochemical reactions in the body
• are also referred to as biocatalysts
• Each enzyme performs its own very specific task.
• Some people rebuild things, others break them down (e.g., food components).

Function of enzyme
• Amylases break down complex carbohydrates.
• Proteases break down proteins.
• Lipases break down fats (lipids).
• Lactase breaks down milk sugar (lactose).

What are enzymes used for?
• Everywhere metabolic processes take place and energy needs to be provided.
• During the breakdown of our food in the gastrointestinal tract.

Plant extracts in hypo-A enzymes
• Yam root extract (Dioscorea opposite thunb) naturally contains diosgenin.
• Red clover extract (Trifolium pratense) contains, among other things, isoflavones. Isoflavones are also commonly called phytoestrogens.
• Caraway seeds
• The lactic acid bacterium Streptococcus thermophilus naturally colonizes our digestive tract and is therefore an integral part of our intestinal flora.
