They are no longer completely recyclable. In addition to the toothpaste box, you can now also recycle the tube. We replaced the aluminum inner barrier layer (ABL), which is typically used in the tube laminate, with a recyclable plastic alternative (PBL). In the new tube, we used a thinner laminate (or, in the case of the larger tubes, the same thickness) than the previous types of tubes. Our switch to recyclable plastics means we end up using less plastic – and the tubes are also softer and easier to squeeze the pulp out of.

How can I recycle this type of tube?

Simply squeeze out as much toothpaste as possible, screw the cap back onto the tube and throw it in the recycling bin. The tube is now made of high density polyethylene (HDPE) plastic. This is the same material that most shampoo, detergent or skin care bottles are made from and when they reach the end of their life they go through the normal plastic recycling process.
