Description Altrifer
The information in the FAQ section was created by the Liki24.co.uk team and is based on the official manufacturer's manual
Altrifer is an iron and vitamin C supplement specially formulated to promote iron absorption in the body. It is recommended in cases of iron deficiency and when not enough iron-rich foods are consumed. In cases of deficiency, Sorbifer or Altrifer tablets may be recommended, depending on the severity of the problem.
What is Altrifer recommended for?
Altrifer is a dietary supplement recommended in cases of iron deficiency or when iron intake from food is relatively low. The Sun Wave Pharma iron supplement is a micronised form of iron that aids the absorption of this mineral. One of the frequently asked questions is whether iron supplements cause weight gain. Iron supplements can cause weight gain in some cases, but this is not usually the case.
What are the benefits of Altrifer over other iron supplements?
Altrifer is a combination of iron and vitamin C – for maximum absorption and bioavailability, it does not usually cause stomach irritation, discomfort or other digestive symptoms. It is recommended in cases of iron deficiency and can be taken in combination with other mineral supplements and multivitamins. Iron is essential for the production of red blood cells and haemoglobin, optimal functioning of the immune system, transport of oxygen in the body and reduction of fatigue. Vitamin C promotes the absorption of iron in the body.
How to take Altrifer? Recommended doses
Altifer capsules should be taken 1 capsule per day – during or after meals. Do not exceed the recommended daily doses. Altrifer solution should be administered according to the child's weight.
Taking Altrifer during breastfeeding and pregnancy
Altrifer LDS may be recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding, on the advice of a doctor, to achieve the optimal iron dose. Iron deficiency is a common problem during pregnancy. However, please note that supplements and medicines during pregnancy should only be taken on the advice of a doctor.
Altrifer contraindications
Iron supplements – such as Maltofer or Altrifer Forte – are generally administered on the recommendation of a doctor, as they may sometimes be contraindicated in cases of gastritis, ulcers, certain blood disorders, etc.
Iron supplements – such as Maltofer or Altrifer Forte – should only be taken on the advice of a doctor for iron deficiency anaemia or hyposideraemia (low serum iron), as they may sometimes be contraindicated in cases of gastritis or ulcers. The dose should be adjusted according to the severity of the anaemia or hyposideremia until the stores are completely replenished. For this reason, it should be taken under medical supervision and for the recommended period. Please note that any iron-based preparation can cause constipation and dark stools, which can be confused with melena.
What does Altrifer contain?
Altrifer LDS Forte contains a micronised form of iron – 30 mg and vitamin C – 66 mg. It is a supplement available in capsule form – usually in boxes of 30 capsules – available without a prescription – Altrifer Dr. Max, Altrifer Catena, etc. Altrifer syrup contains 7 mg of iron per 1 ml of solution.
