Description Lactoferrin
The information in the FAQ section was created by the Liki24.co.uk team and is based on the official manufacturer's manual
The dietary supplement Lactoferrin contains lactoferrin, which plays an important role in balancing the immune system.
What is Lactoferrin?
Lactoferrin is a product containing lactoferrin (LF), a protein found in milk. Colostrum is the first milk produced after a baby is born. It contains seven times more lactoferrin than milk produced later. Lactoferrin is also found in other body fluids: tears, saliva, bile and mucus.
Lactoferrin is a multifunctional glycoprotein involved in regulating iron absorption, immune responses and several physiological functions. There is evidence for the neuroprotective effects of lactoferrin.
Lactoferrin powder usually comes from genetically modified rice, but cow's milk can also be a source. For this reason, people with lactose intolerance should check the source of lactoferrin before taking a supplement.
LF accounts for 10-30% of the total protein content of human milk. Lactoferrin from human milk and bovine sources are similar. However, the concentration of lactoprotein found in bovine milk and colostrum is lower than that found in human milk and colostrum.
What are the benefits of Lactoferrin?
The main benefits of lactoferrin are: it has both antibacterial and antiviral anti-infective action, including SARS-COV 2. It can inhibit the attachment of viruses to cells in the body and their replication at the cellular level. Lactoferrin can also improve the body's immunity.
The antibacterial action of lactoferrin manifests itself by destabilising cell walls, blocking the carbohydrate metabolism of bacteria and preventing bacteria from obtaining the iron they need for proper functioning.
According to scientific evidence, lactoferrin can inhibit hepatitis C infection.
Lactoferrin stimulates foetal and infant development because it serves as a regulator of bone growth in the early stages; promotes iron absorption; promotes the growth of cartilage tissue at various stages of foetal development; can prevent infection and rupture of foetal membranes, while also helping labour.
To develop a healthy intestine, infants need lactoferrin. Breastfed infants are also protected against infections thanks to the lactoferrin in breast milk.
Lactoferrin supports skin health by reducing the number of acne lesions, the number of inflammatory lesions, the severity of acne and the amount of sebum.
Other benefits include: supporting bone health and preventing osteoporosis, antioxidant properties, importance for those who do not absorb iron, helping to prevent thrombocytopenia and hypercoagulation, and antidepressant properties: increasing serotonin levels and reducing cortisol levels.
How should Lactoferrin be taken?
It is recommended to take 1 capsule per day with a meal or as recommended by a specialist consultant.
