Description Astaxanthin
The information in the FAQ section was created by the Liki24.co.uk team and is based on the official manufacturer's manual
Astaxanthin belongs to the category of natural carotenoids, which can be obtained from Swedish algae, certain seafood, trout, salmon, red sea bream, lobster, shrimp or birds (quail and flamingo). Astaxanthin is a substance extracted from the freshwater microalgae Haematococcus Pluvialis. There are microalgae cultures that are specially created to obtain Astaxanthin. These cultures must be constantly monitored to ensure that the extract obtained is of the highest quality.
How does Astaxanthin work?
Astaxanthin is effective in small blood vessels (capillaries), with beneficial effects on the brain, heart, eyes and nervous system. The most important antioxidant action of Astaxanthin occurs in the mitochondria, which is considered the engine of the cell because it produces the energy necessary for its functioning. Unlike other antioxidants, Astaxanthin has the highest capacity to neutralise those free radicals with ‘singlet oxygen’.
Astaxanthin crosses the blood-brain barrier and plays a very important role in everything related to brain activity, thus protecting the brain's nervous system from the harmful effects of oxidative stress. For this reason, astaxanthin is used successfully in Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease and to reduce the sequelae of stroke. Astaxanthin easily reaches the capillaries that supply the eye and can therefore complement and synergistically combine with zeaxanthin and lutein.
