Description

ACTI-trin drug containing substances that inhibit cold symptoms.

Composition

The active substances of the drug are triprolidine, pseudoephedrine and dextromethorphan.
5 ml of syrup contains: 1.25 mg of triprolidine hydrochloride, 30 mg of pseudoephedrine hydrochloride and 10 mg of dextromethorphan hydrobromide.

Other ingredients (excipients) are: liquid maltitol, sodium benzoate, methyl parahydroxybenzoate, sodium saccharin, levomenthol, vanillin, "cola" flavor and aroma enhancer* (natural flavoring substances, triacetin, ethanol), quinoline yellow (E104), cochineal red (E120), brilliant black (E151), ethanol 96% (v/v), purified water.

Dosage

Always use this medicine exactly as described in the package leaflet or as directed by your doctor or pharmacist. If you have any further questions, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
The drug is administered orally.

• Adults and children over 12 years: 10 ml of syrup 3 to 4 times a day, not more often than every 6 hours.
• Children from 7 to 12 years: 5 ml of syrup 3 to 4 times a day, not more often than every 6 hours.

The package includes a spoon or glass for administering medication.

Action

Triprolidine in combination with pseudoephedrine inhibits the sneezing reflex, reduces nasal discharge and other cold symptoms.

Pseudoephedrine also reduces swelling and nasal congestion, thereby improving nasal passages. Dextromethorphan has an antitussive effect.

Indications

ACTI-trin is used for the symptomatic treatment of inflammation of the upper respiratory tract (flu, colds and other upper respiratory tract infections) accompanied by cough, swelling of the nasal mucosa and watery nasal discharge.

Contraindications

When not to use A CTI-trin:

• if you are allergic to the active substances or any of the other ingredients of this medicine;
• during treatment with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) (such as iproniazid, phenelzine, isocarboxazid, tranylcypromine, clorgilline, selegiline, toloxatone, amiflamine, moclobemide, lazabemide) and for 2 weeks after discontinuation of MAOIs;
• in bronchial asthma;
• in respiratory failure;
• in cough with a lot of sputum and cough associated with bronchial asthma;
• in severe hypertension;
• in severe ischemic heart disease;
• in cystic fibrosis;

Side effects

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

Very rare (occurring in less than 1 in 10,000 patients taking the medicine): depressed mood, fatigue, agitation, dizziness, sleep disturbances, drowsiness, anxiety, hallucinations, heart rhythm disturbances (tachycardia), nausea, vomiting, constipation or diarrhea, dry mouth and nasopharynx, urinary retention and painful urination (especially in men with symptoms of prostatic hyperplasia), rash with or without itching, hives.

Warnings and precautions

• The drug should be used with caution in patients with liver disease.
• ACTI-trin contains ethanol. This medicine contains 4.58% v/v ethanol (alcohol), i.e. up to 181 mg per dose, which is equivalent to 4.58 ml of beer or 1.91 ml of wine per dose. It is harmful to people with alcoholism.
• ACTI-trin contains quinoline yellow (E104), cochineal red (E120) and brilliant black (E151). This medicine may cause allergic reactions.
• ACTI-trin contains sodium benzoate. This medicine may cause mild irritation to the skin, eyes, and mucous membranes.
• ACTI-trin contains methyl parahydroxybenzoate. This medicine may cause allergic reactions (possibly delayed).
• ACTI-trin contains liquid maltitol. If you have been told by your doctor that you have an intolerance to some sugars, contact your doctor before taking this medicinal product.

Store out of reach of small children.
Store at room temperature.
Protect from light and moisture.

Use of other medications

Tell your doctor or pharmacist about all the medicines you are taking, have recently taken or might take.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.

Use of the drug in children and adolescents

Not to be used in children under 7 years of age.

Driving and operating machinery

This medicine may impair your ability to drive due to possible drowsiness and dizziness. Do not drive or operate machinery while taking ACTI-trin.
