Calendula

Marigolds are recommended in various forms for a variety of conditions and problems: wounds, skin lesions and dermatological problems, including acne, eczema, dermatitis, psoriasis, skin irritations, mouth or throat conditions, digestive, intestinal and biliary problems, menstrual pain or amenorrhea, haemorrhoids, vulvovaginitis, etc.

Marigolds have numerous beneficial properties and medicinal uses. They help heal wounds, thanks to their healing and anti-inflammatory properties, and are beneficial for various skin conditions, such as eczema, dermatitis, acne or psoriasis. They also have antibacterial properties and are useful for gastrointestinal and digestive disorders and problems, having a calming effect on the digestive mucosa and the digestive system in general. They also have antimicrobial, antispasmodic, emmenagogue effects, promoting the onset of the menstrual cycle, and choleretic-cholagogue effects, meaning they can stimulate bile secretion and elimination.

Marigolds (Calendula officinalis) are generally considered safe and without serious side effects. However, there may be some contraindications and precautions. They are contraindicated in cases of allergies or hypersensitivity to this plant or others, such as ragweed or sunflower. Also, marigolds taken internally can have a blood-thinning effect and may interact with some medications, such as anticoagulants or diabetes medications.

Calendula is available in several forms: calendula cream or ointment (such as Alevia calendula cream or Fares calendula cream), calendula oil, calendula tincture, calendula tea, calendula supplements. Calendula is also found in various types of cosmetics and skincare products.

The method of use varies depending on the type of calendula product. For example, teas are consumed internally or can be used externally locally. Ointments and creams are applied locally to the affected area 2-3 times a day or as indicated on the packaging. Calendula oils can be applied topically to the skin or added to soothing baths for irritated skin. Supplements are administered according to the instructions on the packaging or your doctor's instructions – doses may vary depending on the concentration of the product, the type of product, additional ingredients and the condition being treated.

It is recommended that you consult your doctor before using calendula products during pregnancy. In general, topical calendula products, such as ointments or creams, are safe. However, drinking calendula tea and using supplements are only recommended under medical supervision.

Calendula (Calendula officinalis) is generally safe, with no known serious side effects.
