Glutathione

Glutathione is a dietary supplement containing S-acetyl L-glutathione. This acetyl group helps protect the glutathione molecule and facilitates its passage through the blood-brain barrier, allowing it to detoxify and protect the brain.

S-acetyl L-glutathione has the ability to penetrate the mitochondrial membrane, helping to maintain its integrity and functionality. Glutathione is stable in the intestine and plasma when absorbed and delivered directly to cells, thanks to the acetyl group.

Also known as the ‘master antioxidant’, glutathione is a tripeptide composed of L-glutamine, L-cysteine and glycine, which is omnipresent in all living systems. It is considered the most important intracellular antioxidant produced by the human body, notable for its detoxifying and antioxidant action, its involvement in nutrient metabolism and the balancing of cellular processes.

In order to be absorbed into cells, simple glutathione must be broken down and then reconstituted into reduced glutathione (rGSH).
