Description Passiflora
The information in the FAQ section was created by the Liki24.co.uk team and is based on the official manufacturer's manual
Passiflora or passion flower is a climbing perennial plant with purple and white flowers whose petals are shaped like tentacles. This plant is known for its calming effect and is used as a remedy for sleep problems, anxiety or pain.
What does Passiflora contain?
Passion flower contains biologically active substances, namely phenolic compounds, flavonoids, alkaloids and cyanogenic glycosides. The chemical compounds in passionflower are: apigenin, luteolin, quercetin, kaempferol, vitexin, isovitexin, orientin and isoorientin.
In what forms can passionflower be administered?
Passion flower can be consumed in the form of tea or dietary supplements: capsules with extract, tincture, powder to be added to juices or water.
There are also beauty products containing Passiflora, such as creams or body oils.
What are the benefits of Passiflora treatment?
- provides the human body with a rich supply of bioactive substances that have a beneficial effect on sleep disorders, difficulty falling asleep and the inability to have a peaceful, restful sleep;
- It helps improve sleep quality by eliminating frequent sleep disturbances and difficulty falling asleep, frequent and prolonged awakenings, and circadian rhythm disorders that can impair daytime activity.
- has a favourable effect on nervousness, irritability, nervous heart disorders, premenstrual tension and irritability, and irritability and sleep disorders during menopause;
- helps eliminate the negative effects of stress of any kind that affect the quality and duration of sleep, helps relieve feelings of fear and anxiety, and ensures physical and mental relaxation.
- relieves some gynaecological conditions; has moderate hypotensive, bactericidal and anti-inflammatory activity
- nervous digestive disorders (hyperacid gastritis, fermentation colitis, irritable bowel syndrome, dyspepsia).
Does Passiflora have any contraindications?
Treatment with Passiflora is contraindicated in children under 12 years of age, pregnant and breastfeeding women, people who are about to undergo surgery and those with a proven allergy to Passiflora.
Another very important thing is that Passiflora should not be taken together with sedative medications. Combining them can cause severe drowsiness and breathing problems.
At the same time, passion flower can interfere with the action of anticoagulants or sleeping pills.
People with kidney or liver failure should only take supplements with the advice of a specialist.
How is Passiflora administered?
Adults: 2 tablets twice a day with meals; for frequent sleep disturbances, take 2 tablets half an hour before bedtime.
Children over 12 years of age and adolescents: 1 tablet twice a day with meals (only on the advice of a specialist).
There are no restrictions on the duration of use, as no dependence has been reported.
Passiflora can replace classic synthetic products with a sedative effect (by gradually reducing the dose).
Can passionflower be administered to pregnant and breastfeeding women?
Pregnant women should avoid tea and dietary supplements containing passionflower, as the plant can trigger uterine contractions, i.e. it can cause premature labour.
The effects of the plant on breastfeeding women are not known with certainty. In these situations, it is best to avoid using passionflower.
What are the side effects of treatment with passionflower?
In general, products containing passionflower are considered safe. Doses of up to 800 mg of dry passionflower extract for periods of up to 8 weeks do not appear to be associated with any risks. However, some people may experience adverse effects such as confusion, drowsiness and impaired coordination.
On the other hand, higher doses, even taken over short periods (a few days), may be associated with health risks.
