Stomodine

Stomodine gel for cats and dogs is available as an oral antiseptic gel.

• Stomodine oral antiseptic gel – contains 0.12% chlorhexidine, rose oil, meat flavouring, sorbitol and glycerine
• Stomodine LP oral gel – an advanced formula containing 0.06% chlorhexidine digluconate, Tris-EDTA, safflower oil (4%) and polyvinylpyrrolidone
• Stomodine F – dental gel for dogs and cats containing 0.07% chlorhexidine digluconate, Tris-EDTA and phytosphingosine.

Stomodine dogs and cats is indicated in numerous clinical situations involving oral health issues in dogs and cats. The main indications include:

• maintaining oral hygiene and preventing the build-up of bacterial plaque;
• use before and during scaling procedures to reduce the bacterial load;
• use after scaling to slow down the formation of tartar;
• application following tooth extractions, to support the healing process and prevent infections;
• reducing halitosis, particularly in animals that cannot undergo scaling.

Stomodine ICF should be administered in accordance with the veterinary surgeon’s recommendations and depending on the therapeutic indication.

• When used prior to scaling, the product should be administered at 12-hour intervals for 7 days before the procedure. 
• For preventive purposes, the gel may be applied twice daily (every 12 hours) on an intermittent basis, for example one week of use followed by a one-week break.
• In the case of tooth extractions, Stomodine is applied every 12 hours, starting 2 days before the procedure and continuing for 2 days after the procedure.

The use of Stomodine cats and dogs is contraindicated in cases of known hypersensitivity to chlorhexidine or to any of the product’s excipients. Furthermore, the product must not be used in cases of severe lesions of the oral mucosa without the recommendation of a veterinary surgeon.

The product is intended exclusively for veterinary use and must not be administered to species other than those indicated.

Gently massaging the gums after application may facilitate even distribution and absorption of the product. 

Consultation with a veterinarian is recommended prior to long-term use, particularly in cases of severe or recurrent oral conditions.

Stomodine is generally well tolerated by dogs and cats. However, in rare cases, local reactions may occur, such as mild irritation of the oral mucosa or temporary hypersalivation.

These reactions are usually temporary and disappear once the product is discontinued. If symptoms persist or worsen, it is recommended to consult a vet.

No significant interactions between Stomodine and other veterinary medicines have been reported. However, to avoid dilution or removal of the product from the oral mucosa, it is recommended to apply it between meals.

If used concurrently with other dental treatments or oral antiseptics, it is recommended to consult a vet.

Due to topical application and the relatively low concentration of chlorhexidine, the risk of overdose is low. Accidental ingestion of a small amount of the product is generally well tolerated.

However, excessive administration or ingestion of large quantities may cause mild digestive disturbances, such as nausea or vomiting. In such cases, it is recommended to consult a vet.

Stomodine should be stored in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight. The product should be kept in its original packaging and used before the expiry date indicated on the label.

It is also important to keep the product out of reach of children and pets to prevent accidental ingestion.
