Cathejell

A medical device in the form of a lidocaine anesthetic gel. This sterile preparation has local anesthetic and disinfectant properties, intended for use immediately prior to urological procedures such as catheterization or insertion of other instruments into the urethra.

Composition

1 g of gel contains 20 mg of lidocaine hydrochloride and 0.5 mg of chlorhexidine dihydrochloride.
Other ingredients: hydroxyethyl cellulose, glycerol, water for injections.

25 applicators containing 12.5 g of gel for intracatheter administration.

Action

The preparation reduces the pain associated with inserting the instrument into the urethra.

Product purpose

The preparation is intended for use before procedures such as:

• bladder catheterization,
• probing,
• endoscopy,
• cystoscopy.

Product characteristics

The preparation contains lidocaine hydrochloride, which has an analgesic effect and provides relief to the patient. Its effect begins within 5 minutes of application. The presence of chlorhexidine dihydrochloride protects against infections. Thanks to its high safety profile, it can be safely used on children and oncology patients. The paraben- and preservative-free formula reduces the risk of allergic reactions, while the gel form facilitates application and protects delicate tissues.

How to use a medical device

1. Wash and disinfect the external urethral opening.
2. Peel off the paper cover of the blister containing the applicator.
3. Break off the tip of the applicator completely so that there is no risk of it being accidentally introduced into the urethra together with the gel.
4. Squeeze a drop of gel from the applicator to make it easier to insert into the urethra.
5. Inject the gel by gently squeezing the bellows of the syringe. Keep the bellows pressed as you remove the empty syringe from the urethra.
6. To maximize relief, leave the gel in the urethra for 5-10 minutes before inserting the instrument. For even easier insertion, squeeze an additional drop of gel onto the instrument itself.

The syringe contains 12.5 g of gel, which provides approximately 10 g of gel administered into the urethra. The amount of gel administered depends on the individual anatomical conditions of the patient. The contents of the syringe are sufficient to fill the urethra. Do not use more than one syringe to fill a single urethra.

Contraindications and precautions

Do not use the preparation:

• in people allergic to lidocaine, chlorhexidine or other ingredients contained in the preparation;
• in people allergic to any other local anesthetic agents (amide type);
• in children under 2 years of age;
• in patients with urethral disorders;
• in case of weakened heart function, characterized by a slower heartbeat, AV block disorders, cardiogenic shock, or reduced blood flow.

Possible side effects of a medical device

In rare cases, allergic reactions such as redness, burning or itching have been reported, in the worst case, shock may occur as a hypersensitivity reaction.
