Distilled water is produced through distillation, a process in which ordinary tap water or pre-purified water is evaporated and then condensed. This process largely removes salts, organic substances, and microorganisms. However, small amounts of volatile compounds may remain.
Application areas
Distilled water is used in the medical and pharmaceutical fields, as well as for technical and chemical applications. Due to its non-sterile and microfiltered properties, it is unsuitable for infusions, injections, and eye drops.
For household use, the water offers lime-free use in steam irons, humidifiers, radiator evaporators, and when watering or spraying houseplants.
In the automotive sector, it is useful for refilling car batteries, as well as in windshield washer systems (mixed with methylated spirits) and car radiators.
Furthermore, it is used in laboratories, beauty salons, hobbies and camping.
