The active ingredients in OPTIVE are sodium carboxymethylcellulose (also known as sodium carmellose, a wetting agent that stabilizes the tear film) and glycerin (a non-caking, long-acting moisturizer). OPTIVE also contains the compatible solutes erythritol and L-carnitine, which protect corneal epithelial cells from damage, restore osmotic balance, and normalize cell function.OPTIVE eye drops are available in convenient reusable bottles with the compatible preservative PURITE®, which is converted into the natural tear components by light, meaning it is preservative-free in the eye.
