Raw hawthorn pollen, 130 g, Api Vitalis

Pollen is the male sexual cell of the plant, that colored dust found on the stamens of plants. This pollen is collected by the bees, mixed with a little nectar and digestive juices to form a lump that sticks to their legs, after which it is transported to the hive.

To obtain the pollen, the beekeepers use a simple but at the same time ingenious device. At the entrance to the hive, they place a grill through which the bees sneak to reach the hive, and part of the pollen collected by the bees detaches and falls into a container under the respective grill. At the end of the day, the beekeeper goes to each hive equipped with such a collector and collects the pollen thus obtained. Then, so that the product does not change and keeps its freshness, it is stored in the freezer, at temperatures between -5 and -15 degrees Celsius.
