Askina Calgitrol Paste Wound paste with silver alginate - wound dressing in paste

Askina Calgitrol Paste is a sterile paste dressing containing ionic silver alginate , which provides a prolonged release of active silver ions, enhancing antibacterial efficacy and helping protect the wound from external infections and bacteria. In the presence of exudate, silver alginate maintains a moist wound environment, promoting natural healing.

Indications for use of Askina Calgitrol Paste:

Askina Calgitrol Paste is intended for topical use to treat deep wounds, stage I-IV pressure ulcers, ischemic ulcers, second-degree burns, and graft donor sites. The product is intended for external use and may be used to treat infected wounds under medical supervision.

Precautions:

In case of hospital-acquired infection, local silver ion therapy cannot replace systemic treatment or adequate antibacterial treatment.
Warning: Using a single tube of Askina Calgítrol Paste for more than 7 days after opening or using it on multiple patients poses a potential risk to both the patient and the user. This could lead to infection and/or impairment of the product's proper function. Infection and/or impairment of the product's functionality could lead to serious injury, illness, or death of the patient.

Contraindications:

Askina Calgitrol Paste should not be used in patients with known hypersensitivity to alginates and silver, when the presence of metals is a contraindication, ulceration resulting from infection, tuberculosis, syphilis, severe fungal infection and third-degree burns.

Application:

Askina Calgitrol Paste is easy to apply and requires no special skills or equipment. The contents of the tube are for single-use use on a single patient. If the dispensing tip is replaced after each use, Askina Calgitrol Paste can be stored and used within 7 days of opening.

Skin preparation:

Wash the wound with 0.9% saline or an appropriate cleansing solution such as Prontosan and then dry the skin around the wound with a sterile gauze pad.

Applying the dressing:

Before use, shake the tube, remove the outer protective liner, and remove the cap. Apply a thick layer of paste to the entire wound surface, then apply an appropriate external protective dressing, depending on the amount of exudate.

Removing/changing the dressing

Carefully remove the additional dressing and gently cleanse the wound with sterile 0.9% saline or Prontosan solution until the wound is completely cleansed, including any residue of Askina Calgitrol Paste. Repeat all of the above steps to apply another dressing. Askina Calgitrol Paste should be changed each time the dressing is changed (once daily or every 3 days, depending on the need and condition of the wound) or when exudation occurs, by applying an additional dressing.

Additional information:

In the initial stages of treatment with Askina Calgitrol Paste, the wound may appear enlarged. This is normal and occurs as debris and contaminants are removed from the wound edges. When used on moderately exuding wounds, Askina Calgitrol Paste creates a more conducive environment for natural healing. Where natural wound healing is inhibited by disease, Askina Calgitrol Paste may produce little progress, so appropriate treatment is necessary. If no improvement is achieved after four weeks of Askina Calgitrol Paste therapy, the original diagnosis and treatment should be reconsidered, in accordance with standard wound care practices.
Clinicians/healthcare professionals should be aware that very limited data are available regarding the prolonged and repeated use of silver-containing devices, particularly in children and neonates. Currently, there are no contraindications to the use of silver in pediatrics. To avoid inappropriate treatment, it is recommended to follow official best practice guidelines for wound care.
