Description
Co-Lactase Infant Drops Pack, 10+10ml (30% off), Maxima HealthCare Ltd
Food supplement with lactase, for newborns and infants with transient digestive discomfort (colic) due to lactose intolerance
Colic-generalities
• Colic is a condition in which a child, otherwise healthy, has frequent and long episodes of crying or restlessness, for no apparent reason
• Characteristically, this condition appears in the first months of life and often disappears relatively suddenly after three or four months
• But sometimes it can take 6 to 12 months
Colic-epidemiology and symptomatology
Colic affects between 10% and 30% of infants between the ages of 3 and 13 weeks (at least 1 in 5 babies are affected)
Characteristics of colic:
• > 3 hours a day
• > 3 days a week
• > 3 weeks
• without clear reasons
• with normal somatic development
• symptoms appear mainly in the afternoon and evening (3-10 pm)
Colic - causes
• Despite the prevalence, the mechanism of the occurrence of colic remains partially unknown
• There are theories that incriminate the fact that the infant's nervous or digestive system is immature
• Concomitant risk factors are partially unknown
• Some studies show that in many situations, the immediate cause of colic is transient lactose intolerance caused by insufficient lactase activity
• This type of colic (caused by transient lactose intolerance) implies that the symptoms could be improved by reducing the lactose content of
infant food
Food supplement
• 10 ml bottle (about 200 drops)
• For newborns and infants who experience transient digestive discomfort (colic) due to lactose intolerance
• Contains lactase, in the form of drops, which are added to breast milk or milk formula before giving to the infant, to reduce the lactose content
Co-Lactase - composition
• Co-Lactase contains: lactase, glycerol, water
• Active ingredient: lactase
• Source of lactase: Aspergillus oryzae (a yeast used since ancient times in China and Japan for the fermentation of grains: rice, soybeans, in order to obtain sauces and wines)
• Lactase concentration: 225 FCC*/drop - the minimum level of enzyme that should be present under any circumstances
(*FCC= Food Chemical Codex, unit of measurement for enzyme activity)
• The optimal pH level for maximum lactase activity from CoLactase® is: 4-4.5 (due to this property, milk can be given to the infant immediately after adding Co-Lactase, as the enzyme will be active in the acidic environment of the stomach)
Co-Lactase - advantages
• High activity lactase - contains the minimum level of lactase that must be available under all circumstances
• No waiting time - the newborn or infant can be fed immediately because Co-Lactase® works optimally at acidic pH (4-4.5)
• Natural formula - the source of lactase is Aspergillus oryzae
• A high degree of safety for children - no sugar, preservatives or flavors
• Can be used from the first days of life
• Suitable for use in newborns and infants - in the form of drops
• Sufficient for 60 uses - 10ml bottle
