Azelaic acid

Azelaic acid is an acid that belongs to the group of carboxylic acids and is found naturally in grains such as wheat, barley and rye.

It has anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties and is effective in treating skin conditions such as rosacea and acne. It can prevent these conditions from recurring and eliminate bacteria in the pores that cause acne.

For acne:

Azelaic acid works by: reducing irritation, redness and swelling, cleansing pores of bacteria that can cause irritation or breakouts, helping the skin heal faster and reducing scarring.

All products containing azelaic acid have basically the same basic instructions for use:

The affected area should be washed thoroughly with warm water and dried. Use a mild soap or cleanser. Wash your hands before applying the product. Apply a small amount of the product to the affected area, massage in and allow to dry completely. Once the product has dried, cosmetic products can be applied. It is not recommended or necessary to cover or bandage the area.

Avoid using deep cleansers or astringents and exfoliants while using azelaic acid.

Use products with a high SPF during treatment.

It may be necessary to apply the product twice a day.

For post-acne scars

Azelaic acid promotes the improvement of post-acne scars and cell regeneration and reduces the synthesis of melanin, which is also involved in the appearance of pigmentation spots.

For hyperpigmentation

Azelaic acid can reduce the proliferation of cells responsible for areas of pigment difference. It can treat acne and even out hyperpigmentation triggered by acne.

For skin brightening

This acid is useful in achieving a radiant appearance, reducing the risk of areas with different shades and spots.

For rosacea

Azelaic acid reduces inflammation and improves the appearance of blood vessels visible on the skin's surface, a phenomenon commonly seen in rosacea.

Do not use products containing azelaic acid if you are allergic to azelaic acid or any of the other ingredients in this medicine.

During treatment with azelaic acid, the skin is more sensitive and prone to sunburn, so it is essential to use a sunscreen with a high SPF.

Azelaic acid may cause side effects such as: tingling or burning sensation on the skin, redness or dryness of the skin, peeling of the skin at the application site.

Less common side effects include: irritation and swelling, blisters or peeling of the skin,

tightness or pain in the joints, fever, hives and itching,

difficulty breathing.

If any of these side effects occur, stop using azelaic acid.

Skinoren cream contains azelaic acid as its active ingredient and belongs to the group of anti-acne medicines prepared for external (cutaneous) use. Skinoren cream is used to treat acne vulgaris and melasma. This medicine reduces the development of rough, resistant skin cells that block the pores of the skin, causing blackheads and whiteheads to form.
