Direne

DRN Direne is available in two main pharmaceutical forms, designed to facilitate administration according to the animal’s preferences and the veterinarian’s recommendations.

• The first form is Direne oral tablets, intended for dogs and cats, which contain standardised extracts of medicinal plants, vitamins and beneficial microorganisms. 
• The second form is Direne Paste, 15 ml, a semi-liquid formulation administered using a graduated syringe. 

DRN Direne is recommended in all situations where support for renal function in dogs and cats is required. Among the main therapeutic indications are acute or chronic renal failure, as well as various systemic conditions that may affect kidney function.

The product may be used in cases of immune-mediated diseases, metabolic disorders such as diabetes mellitus, or in cases of neoplastic conditions, whether primary or metastatic. 

Furthermore, Direne for dogs and cats may be indicated in renal amyloidosis, renal ischaemia, inflammatory processes such as pyelonephritis, polycystic kidney disease, or idiopathic kidney disorders.

For tablets, the recommended dosage regimen is 1 tablet per 10 kg of body weight in dogs, administered once daily. In cats, the usual dose is ½ tablet per 5 kg of body weight, administered once daily.

For the oral paste formulation, administration is carried out using a graduated syringe, 1 mark for every 5 kg of body weight, once daily, for at least four months.

DRN Direne is generally well tolerated by dogs and cats, but its use should be exercised with caution in certain situations. The product is not recommended for animals with known hypersensitivity to any of the active ingredients or excipients.

Furthermore, administration should be carried out with caution in animals with severe electrolyte imbalances or with conditions requiring strict potassium restriction, given the potassium citrate content.

Direne should be administered in accordance with the veterinary surgeon’s recommendations, particularly in patients with advanced renal failure or undergoing complex concomitant treatments. 

Regular monitoring of biochemical parameters, such as urea, creatinine and serum phosphorus, is recommended to assess the efficacy of treatment.

In most cases, Direne is well tolerated by animals, and adverse reactions are rare and usually mild. Minor digestive disturbances, such as transient diarrhoea or abdominal discomfort, may occasionally occur.

In rare cases, allergic reactions to certain plant-based components in the formula may occur, manifesting as itching or skin rashes. In such cases, administration should be discontinued and a veterinary surgeon consulted.

Direne may be used concurrently with drug therapies specific to renal failure, including diuretics or angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors. However, due to the diuretic effect of certain components in the formula, dose adjustment of these medicines may be necessary.

No significant interactions with food are known, but the product is frequently administered alongside special veterinary diets intended for patients with kidney disease.

Data on overdose are limited, but administration of excessive amounts may lead to an increased diuretic effect and the development of electrolyte imbalances. In such situations, it is recommended to discontinue administration and consult a vet.

Direne must be stored in its original packaging, in a dry place away from direct light, at temperatures below 25°C. The product must be kept out of the reach of children and animals.

Once the packaging has been opened, the paste form must be used in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions to maintain the stability of the active ingredients.
