Bioperine
Description Bioperine
The information in the FAQ section was created by the Liki24.co.uk team and is based on the official manufacturer's manual
BioPerina is a standardized extract from black pepper fruit (Piper nigrum L.), patented and registered as a trademark by Sabinsa. The main active ingredient in this extract is piperine, an alkaloid that gives pepper its characteristic pungent taste and which, through clinical and preclinical studies, has been shown to increase the bioavailability of various nutrients and phytochemicals.
In recent years, BioPerine has been included in numerous nutritional formulas, either alone or in combination with other ingredients, such as Ashwagandha with BioPerine or turmeric with BioPerine, precisely because of its essential role as an absorption enhancer.
Forms of release
Piper BioPerina is available on the market in capsule form, containing black pepper extract standardized to 95% piperine, in doses of 2–10 mg/capsule.
There are also combined formulas that combine curcumin with BioPerine or BioPerine with adaptogenic herbs (e.g., Ashwagandha) or minerals (e.g., magnesium bisglycinate).
Manufacturers – Wish, Singularis, GNC, Swanson, Bronson Laboratories, etc.
Indications for use
Black pepper BioPerine is mainly recommended as an adjuvant for:
- Increasing the absorption of nutrients and phytochemicals – improves the bioavailability of fat-soluble vitamins, curcumin, resveratrol, coenzyme Q10, selenium, and other substances.
- Supporting digestion – BioPerine black pepper extract stimulates gastric and pancreatic secretions, facilitating the digestive process.
- Antioxidant effect – among the benefits of BioPerine is that it can help reduce oxidative stress and protect cells.
- Supports energy metabolism – by improving nutrient absorption, it can reduce feelings of fatigue and support vitality.
Dosage
The usual doses depend on the type of product and the combination with other ingredients:
- BioPerine alone: 5–10 mg per day, usually taken with food.
- Combination formulas: 2–5 mg BioPerine per capsule, combined with other ingredients, taken once or twice a day. For example, in the case of PharmoVit Ashwagandha + BioPerine, take 1 capsule per day with a glass of water (250 ml).
Contraindications
Taking a BioPerine supplement is contraindicated in the following situations:
- Hypersensitivity/allergy to black pepper or any of the excipients
- Children and adolescents under 18 years of age – insufficient safety data
- Pregnant and breastfeeding women – due to unknown effects on the fetus and lactation
- People with severe digestive disorders (gastric ulcer, active gastritis), as pepper may increase mucosal irritation
- Coagulation disorders
Special instructions for use
BioPerine should be taken with food to facilitate absorption. People with digestive sensitivity may start with smaller doses to assess tolerance.
In the case of liposomal products, BioPerine further enhances the bioavailability of nutrients, requiring strict adherence to dosages.
Cures can last between 4 and 12 weeks, depending on the clinical indication and the specialist's recommendation.
Side effects
In general, BioPerina is well tolerated, but the following may sometimes occur:
- Mild digestive disorders – heartburn, reflux, abdominal discomfort.
- Rare allergic reactions – skin rashes, itching, edema.
Side effects are usually dose-dependent and disappear when administration is discontinued.
Interactions with other drugs and foods
BioPerina has significant pharmacokinetic potential:
- It increases the absorption and bioavailability of certain drugs (antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, beta-blockers, antiepileptics).
- It interacts with supplements based on curcumin, resveratrol, vitamin D, or coenzyme Q10, amplifying their bioavailability and effects.
Concomitant consumption with highly spiced foods may increase the risk of digestive irritation.
Overdose
Clinical data on BioPerine overdose is limited. Theoretically, high doses of piperine may cause:
- Severe digestive disorders (nausea, vomiting, intense heartburn)
- Excessive potentiation of the effects of certain medications
Treatment is symptomatic and involves discontinuation of administration, hydration, and medical monitoring.
Storage conditions
BioPerine should be stored at room temperature (8–30°C) in a dry place away from light. The packaging must be kept tightly closed to protect the active ingredients. Keep out of the reach and sight of children.
