Protexin Cystopro is available as oral capsules, flavoured with chicken, which makes the product more palatable to pets. 

The product is available in two pack sizes: boxes of 30 capsules and boxes of 120 capsules, allowing the duration of treatment to be adjusted according to therapeutic needs.

Cystopro Protexin is recommended in numerous clinical situations associated with urinary tract disorders in dogs and cats. The main indications for Cystopro for cats and dogs include:

• lower urinary tract infections;
• bacterial or recurrent cystitis;
• prevention of recurrent urinary tract infections;
• haematuria (the presence of blood in the urine);
• periuria (urination outside the litter tray or usual place);
• dysuria (difficulty or pain when urinating);
• urinary incontinence;
• use as an adjunct in urinary lithiasis.

Cystopro capsules are administered orally, with the dose determined according to the animal’s body weight.

The usual administration schedule is as follows:

• animals weighing under 20 kg: 1 capsule per day;
• animals weighing between 20 and 40 kg: 2 capsules per day;
• animals weighing between 40 and 60 kg: 3 capsules per day.

The capsules can be administered directly or opened and mixed with food, a method particularly useful for animals that refuse direct administration. The duration of treatment may vary depending on the severity of the condition and the vet’s recommendations.

According to available data, no specific contraindications have been identified for the use of Cystopro for dogs and cats. The product is well tolerated and can be administered long-term, including for prophylactic purposes.

However, the administration of dietary supplements to animals with severe chronic conditions or during complex treatments should be carried out under the supervision of a vet.

Cystopro for dogs and cats is distinguished by its complex mechanism of action, based on four main components that work synergistically.

Enterococcus faecium, a stable probiotic strain, helps maintain the balance of the intestinal microbiota and reduces colonisation by pathogenic bacteria. This action is important because many urinary tract infections are caused by bacteria originating from the intestinal flora.

Mannan-oligosaccharides (MOS) act as prebiotics, promoting the growth of beneficial bacteria and interfering with the adhesion of pathogens to the urinary tract mucosa.

In general, Cystopro cat and dog is well tolerated by dogs and cats, and adverse reactions are rare. In isolated cases, mild digestive disturbances may occur, such as transient diarrhoea or gastrointestinal discomfort, particularly in animals sensitive to changes in the intestinal flora.

If persistent or unusual symptoms occur, administration of the product should be discontinued and consultation with a vet is recommended.

Cystopro dogs and cats may be used concurrently with antibiotic treatments and is often recommended as an adjunctive therapy in bacterial urinary tract infections. The probiotics in the formulation may help maintain the balance of the intestinal microbiota during antimicrobial therapy.

No significant adverse interactions with other veterinary medicines or with the animal’s normal diet have been reported.

There are no data to suggest the occurrence of toxic effects in the event of accidental administration of doses higher than those recommended. However, overdose may cause mild digestive disturbances, such as diarrhoea or abdominal discomfort.

In such cases, it is recommended to temporarily discontinue administration and monitor the animal.

Cystopro cats and dogs should be stored in a dry, clean place, away from direct sunlight. It is recommended to keep the packaging tightly closed and store at room temperature to protect the stability of the active ingredients.

The supplement should also be kept out of the reach of children and pets.
