Sudafed

Sudafed Xylospray is available as a nasal spray, packaged in a 10 ml bottle equipped with a metering pump. Each dose (0.1 ml) contains 0.5 mg or 1 mg of xylometazoline hydrochloride.

Sudafed Xylospray is indicated for:

• reducing nasal mucosal edema in acute and chronic rhinitis
• treatment of vasomotor rhinitis
• supporting the healing process of the nasal mucosa after nasal surgery
• decongestion of the nasal passages to relieve respiratory symptoms associated with colds

The recommended dose is one spray in each nostril, up to three times a day, as needed. The maximum duration of continuous use should not exceed 7 days. If symptoms do not improve after 3 days, medical advice should be sought. Treatment may be resumed only after a break of several days.

Method of administration:

• Remove the protective cap;
• Before first use, press the pump 5 times to obtain a uniform spray;
• Insert the tip of the applicator into the nostril in an almost vertical position and spray while inhaling;
• Repeat the procedure for the other nostril, if necessary;
• Clean the applicator and close it with the cap after each use.

Sudafed Xylospray is contraindicated in the following situations:

• hypersensitivity to xylometazoline, dexopanthenol, or excipients;
• dry nose;
• glaucoma, especially angle-closure glaucoma;
• history of transnasal surgery involving opening of the meninges;

The treatment should be used with caution in the following situations:

• cardiovascular disorders (including long QT syndrome, hypertension, ischemic heart disease);
• diabetes mellitus;
• hyperthyroidism;
• pheochromocytoma;
• porphyria;
• benign prostatic hyperplasia.

Patients who require prolonged administration of xylometazoline may continue treatment for a longer period only under strict medical supervision, as prolonged use may promote the development of nasal mucosal atrophy.

Like all medicines, Sudafed Xylospray can cause side effects. These include:

• hypersensitivity reactions: rash, edema, pruritus
• tachycardia, palpitations, hypertension

• hallucinations, convulsions, fatigue, insomnia, headache, nosebleeds

• dryness, local irritation or burning, sneezing

Sudafed Xylospray may interact with various medicines, such as:

• monoamine oxidase inhibitors or tricyclic antidepressants – risk of hypertension;
• other sympathomimetics (pseudoephedrine, ephedrine, phenylephrine, etc.) 
• antihypertensives (e.g., methyldopa) – possible decrease in efficacy and increase in blood pressure.

Concomitant administration with caffeine or energy drinks may promote an increase in blood pressure.

In case of accidental or intentional overdose, serious reactions may occur, especially in children, such as:

• pupillary constriction/dilatation;
• tachycardia, arrhythmias, cardiac arrest;
• hypertension or hypotension;
• nausea, vomiting;
• convulsions, coma;
• cyanosis, pulmonary edema;
• respiratory disorders.

In such cases, emergency medical attention is required.

Prolonged use or administration of Sudafed Xylospray in high doses may lead to the recurrence or worsening of nasal congestion.

Sudafed Xylospray should be stored at a temperature below 25°C, away from direct light and moisture. Keep out of the reach of children. After first opening, the product is valid for 6 months. Observe the expiry date stated on the packaging.
