The company was founded in 1849 and named after the founders of the pharmaceutical business, C. Pfizer and C. Erhardt.

The company's first product was Santonin, a drug for treating intestinal parasites. Pfizer made a significant leap forward in the 1940s when the company first began using fermentation technology to produce penicillin.

The company's goal is to develop and manufacture medicines that truly change patients' lives for the better.

One of the company's main areas of research is the search for and development of new methods for treating cardiovascular diseases and metabolic syndrome. Pfizer's best-known cardiovascular drugs are Lipitor (a drug for lowering blood cholesterol levels) and Norvasc (a drug for lowering blood pressure).
