Babassu oil is protective, emollient, regenerating, prevents dehydration and premature aging of the skin. It absorbs quickly, leaving the skin silky and velvety, without the feeling of a greasy film. Gives vitality and shine to hair; useful for dry scalp, damaged, brittle hair.
The oil is extracted from the seeds of the babassu palm, a species native to the Amazon basin. The babassu palm tree grows up to 20 m high, and its fruits, the nuts, are grouped in bunches and can weigh between 250 - 400 g.
For Brazilian localities, especially the northern ones, babassu represents a vital resource both from an economic and subsistence point of view: flour is obtained from the fruit, a basic ingredient in food, rich in iron and calcium, its thick peels are transformed by burning in coal, which serves as fuel, the leaves are used to make roofs or are dried and transformed into straw from which the natives weave carpets for their homes, and the oil, particularly rich in lauric acid, is used both in food but mainly sold for obtaining numerous cosmetic preparations, soaps and even medicines.
Babassu oil is still obtained today by rudimentary, old methods. The nuts are dried naturally in the sun, and then they are cracked by hitting with the help of wooden tools. The soil in the harvesting area is free from any chemical treatment or pesticides.
All the activity of obtaining babassu oil is undertaken by native women, organized in associations, connected to the fair trade chain, contributing significantly to improving the lives of the locals.
The composition of babassu oil rich in fatty acids: lauric, myristic, confirms the indisputable qualities of this product, compared many times with coconut oil or used as a substitute for it: emollient, intense moisturizer, excellent nutrition and outstanding protector.

Method of obtaining:
By cold pressing the seeds from the fruit, followed by a deodorization process in accordance with organic certification standards.

Features:
Light yellowish liquid with a fine nutty smell. At temperatures below 20 °C it solidifies, it can be liquefied by keeping it in a warmer environment.
