What is the black cohosh?

The black cohosh (Cimicifuga racemosa) is a perennial herb belonging to the buttercup family. Its natural area of ​​occurrence is North America (USA and Canada). The plant blooms at the end of summer, when it is covered with white, candle-like flowers. For this reason, in Poland, black cohosh is also called candlewort and cultivated as an ornamental plant. However, the most valuable part of the plant, which contains a wealth of health-promoting ingredients, is the rhizome. The healing effects of black cohosh were first noticed many years ago by North American Indians, who used it primarily as a remedy for women's health problems (menstrual disorders).

Currently, the plant is also a valued herbal raw material. Modern research has confirmed that the rhizome of black cohosh is a source of many active substances that have a positive effect on the functioning of the female body, such as triterpene glycosides, alkaloids, flavonoids, isoflavones and polyphenols.

How does the black cohosh work?

Thanks to the content of biologically active ingredients such as triterpene glycosides, as well as isoflavones (phytoestrogens) and other estrogenic compounds, black cohosh helps women maintain comfort and well-being during menopause - it alleviates its undesirable symptoms, such as hot flashes, sweating, anxiety and irritability.

What is the standardization and origin of the extract?

When planning supplementation, it is worth paying attention to the standardization, i.e. the strength of the extract, as well as its origin. Supplement manufacturers often use non-standardized extracts, based only on the DER value, or they base their products not on the extract, but on dried, powdered plant material, having a much lower content of active ingredients.

Unlike many products available on the market that are based on Chinese raw materials, our extract was produced from plants growing in America (USA), which is the natural area where the black cohosh occurs.
