Description Adtab
The information in the FAQ section was created by the Liki24.co.uk team and is based on the official manufacturer's manual
AdTab is a modern oral antiparasitic for dogs and cats, formulated with lotilaner, known for its systemic action against fleas and ticks. The product is developed and marketed by Elanco and represents an effective therapeutic option for the rapid and prolonged control of ectoparasite infestations.
Forms of supply
AdTab for dogs and cats is available as oral tablets for once-monthly administration, each containing a precise dose of lotilaner tailored to the animal’s body weight.
For dogs, AdTab for dogs is available in different strengths, namely:
- 56.25 mg for animals weighing between 1.3 and 2.5 kg
- 112.5 mg for dogs weighing between 2.5 and 5.5 kg
- 225 mg for the 5.5–11 kg range
- 450 mg for dogs weighing between 11 and 22 kg
- 900 mg for dogs weighing between 22 and 45 kg
For cats, AdTab cat is available in a 12 mg strength for animals weighing between 0.5 and 2 kg and a 48 mg strength for those weighing between 2 and 8 kg.
Directions for use
AdTab tablets are indicated for the immediate treatment of flea and tick infestations in dogs and cats. The product is intended for both therapeutic and prophylactic use in regions or at times of the year with a high incidence of ectoparasites.
Flea infestations can cause flea bite allergic dermatitis, whilst ticks can be vectors of serious diseases, such as babesiosis or ehrlichiosis in dogs. Therefore, effective control of ectoparasites is an essential component of preventive veterinary medicine.
Dosage regimen
AdTab for dogs and cats should be administered orally as a single monthly dose, based on the animal’s body weight.
The product may be administered with or without food; however, according to veterinary clinical practice, administration with a meal may improve absorption and gastrointestinal tolerability.
Contraindications
AdTab for dogs and cats is not recommended for animals with known hypersensitivity to lotilaner or to any of the product’s excipients.
For dogs, safety and efficacy data for AdTab dog were obtained in animals at least 8 weeks of age and with a minimum body weight of 1.3 kg.
For cats, AdTab cat is indicated for animals at least 8 weeks of age and weighing more than 0.5 kg.
Special instructions for use
The tablets must be handled in accordance with hygiene standards, including washing hands after administration.
AdTab is a systemic product, which means that the parasites must feed in order to come into contact with the active ingredient. Although fleas die quickly, it is possible that the parasites may remain visible on the animal for a short period after administration.
Side effects
In clinical trials, lotilaner demonstrated a favourable safety profile. Adverse reactions reported occasionally include transient gastrointestinal disturbances (vomiting, diarrhoea), lethargy or loss of appetite.
As with other isoxazolines, use in animals with a history of neurological disorders should be undertaken with caution, although the incidence of neurological reactions is low.
Interactions with other medicinal products and food
No clinically significant interactions between lotilaner and other drugs commonly used in veterinary medicine have been reported.
However, concomitant administration with other systemic antiparasitic agents should be carried out on the advice of a veterinarian.
Overdose
Safety studies have demonstrated the tolerability of the product at doses higher than those recommended, without the occurrence of serious reactions. However, accidental overdose may increase the risk of gastrointestinal or neurological adverse reactions.
In the event of accidental administration of a dose higher than the recommended dose, the animal should be clinically monitored and a veterinary surgeon consulted.
Storage conditions
AdTab must be stored in the original packaging, at the temperature specified by the manufacturer, protected from moisture and direct light. The product must be kept out of the reach of children and animals.
Compliance with storage conditions helps to maintain the stability and efficacy of the active ingredient throughout the shelf life.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
AdTab vs Credelio – Which is better?
AdTab and Credelio contain the same active ingredient, lotilaner, and provide systemic protection against fleas and ticks for approximately one month after administration. The choice between AdTab and Credelio depends on your vet’s recommendation.
Can AdTab be used on pregnant or lactating animals?
In the absence of sufficient data, use in these situations must be decided by the vet based on an assessment of the risk-benefit ratio.
How long does a single dose of AdTab provide protection?
A single dose of AdTab protects dogs and cats against flea and tick infestations for approximately 30 days after administration. This prolonged duration of protection ensures effective control of ectoparasites throughout the month, making it easier to plan preventive treatment.
