Description Dandelion

The information in the FAQ section was created by the Liki24.co.uk team and is based on the official manufacturer's manual

Dandelion, scientifically known as Taraxacum Officinale, meaning ‘official remedy for diseases’, has been known since ancient times for its healing properties, including detoxifying, purifying, remineralising, hepatic, stomachic, calming and sedative effects. It is a medicinal plant widely used in traditional folk medicine and modern phytotherapy in Europe, Asia and America.

What is dandelion?

Dandelion, the most common of the varieties, is a plant with yellow flowers. Over time, people have used the roots, flowers, leaves and even the stems of this plant to prepare medicinal products. Dandelion teas and tinctures are used to treat various conditions.

Although considered a weed by some, in recent years more and more people have started using the root and flowers in salads, dishes and jams. Not to be confused with rocket, which is related to dandelion but has crisp leaves and a slightly spicy taste.

How can dandelion be consumed?

The green leaves can be eaten cooked or raw as they are an excellent source of vitamins A, C, K, E, folate, vitamin B, and minerals such as iron, calcium, magnesium, and potassium.

Dandelion root also contains inulin, which helps maintain healthy bacteria in the digestive tract. Dandelion root can be dried and consumed as tea, but it can also be consumed in other forms.

Dandelion can be used in many other ways, from salads and culinary preparations, infusions, teas, syrups, powder, poultices, to therapeutic preparations in the form of dietary supplements.

Dandelion root powder is a basic component of HRI Water Relief tablets, a herbal remedy that is an effective solution for problems caused by fluid retention, especially water retention. It belongs to the category of diuretics and can be used by patients suffering from inflammation of the legs and ankles, bloated or enlarged abdomen, stretched skin, cellulite, weight gain, high blood pressure or bloating during the menstrual cycle or menopause.

What are the benefits of dandelion?

It is a nutritious plant.

It contains numerous vitamins, minerals and fibre, nutrients that are necessary for the proper functioning of the body and can be found in pharmacies.

An important source of antioxidants

Antioxidants are compounds that can help the body fight free radicals.

Dandelion contains beta-carotene, which helps protect against cell damage and oxidative stress.

Possible support for healthy digestion

The root is rich in fibre, which can help the body achieve good peristalsis of food through the digestive tract and prevent constipation.

May maintain metabolic balance

Dandelion can help maintain weight control, as some compounds can regulate blood sugar levels and glucose absorption in muscles.

Potential to reduce inflammation

Thanks to the polyphenols it contains, dandelion has the power to reduce inflammation.

Detoxification of the body

Because it may have diuretic properties, dandelion can act as an organ detoxifier and can be used to remove excess fluid from the body, which can lower blood pressure.

The potassium in dandelion may also help lower blood pressure.

May reduce cholesterol and triglycerides

Dandelion extracts offer skin protection

Initial research has identified a first beneficial effect of dandelion, which is to help generate new skin cells, improving collagen production and hydration.

What are the contraindications of dandelion?

Some people may experience unpleasant symptoms when in contact with dandelion. People with sensitive skin or atopic dermatitis may experience irritation when their skin comes into contact with dandelion fluff and flowers.

What are the side effects of dandelion?

Reactions that may occur with dandelion include:

  • Heartburn;
  • Digestive problems and diarrhoea;
  • Skin irritation;
  • Intolerance to dandelion.

Dandelion products should be consumed in moderation.

How is dandelion tea made?

Dandelion tea is recommended for spleen and liver disorders, supports digestive secretions (gastric, intestinal and pancreatic) for the production and elimination of bile, contributes to detoxification of the body and increases appetite.

It is taken internally in the form of:

Powder for sublingual administration – the plant is finely ground with an electric grinder. One level teaspoon is recommended 4 times a day on an empty stomach, held under the tongue for 10-15 minutes, then swallowed with water.

Cold macerate – add one tablespoon of the plant to 250 ml of water, leave at room temperature for 6-8 hours, then strain and drink on an empty stomach. It is recommended to drink 2-3 cups of macerate per day, 30 minutes before meals.

Infusion – add one tablespoon of the plant to 250 ml of boiling water, leave to stand for 15 minutes at room temperature, then strain and drink on an empty stomach. It is recommended to drink 2-3 cups of infusion per day, 30 minutes before meals.

If administered for longer periods, take a 10-day break every 6 weeks.

What cosmetic product can be obtained from dandelion?

Massage oil with dandelion extract is made exclusively from 100% natural oils and essential oils.

It is designed for all skin types and can be used in all types of massage, at home, in medical clinics, beauty salons and spas.

It contains

  • rapeseed oil
  • castor oil
  • olive oil
  • grape seed oil
  • almond oil
  • dandelion root extract

The combination of dandelion extract and five natural oils has cleansing, antiseptic and detoxifying properties, soothes irritated skin, normalises lipid balance, activates blood circulation, treats and prevents cellulite, nourishes the skin and restores its firmness, and has a powerful detoxifying effect.

How is dandelion tincture obtained?

Dandelion tincture is a hydroalcoholic solution obtained by cold preparation from the aerial parts of dandelion. Hydroalcoholic solutions are most easily assimilated by the body, with the effect appearing shortly after.

For children between 3 and 12 years of age, 2 drops of tincture per kg of body weight, diluted in 100 ml of water (half a glass), 3 times a day is recommended. For children and young people between 12 and 18 years of age: 1-2 teaspoons of tincture diluted in 100 ml of water (half a glass) 3 times a day. For adults: one tablespoon of tincture diluted in 100 ml of water (half a glass) 3 times a day. It is recommended to take the product 30 minutes before meals.

It is contraindicated during pregnancy, breastfeeding, and intolerance to any of the product's components.

It should be taken with caution in people with gastric and duodenal ulcers and hyperacid gastritis (due to its alcohol content, it may increase gastric acidity).
