Improving digestion and absorption in the body of proteins, carbohydrates, lipids (fats):
- betaine HCl (hydrochloric acid) converts pepsinogen into pepsin which, together with proteases: pancreatin (contains trypsin, chymotrypsin, elastase, carboxypepsidase, ribonuclease, deoxyribonuclease), bromelain and papain, transforms proteins in food into amino acids from which the body synthesizes proteins essential for cellular metabolism
- lactase transforms lactose into glucose and galactose that can pass the intestinal barrier
- cellulase transforms cellulose (the indigestible component of dietary fiber) into glucose; the enzyme cellulase is not produced by the human body, therefore external intake is necessary
- diastase (composed of alpha and beta-amylase) and mycozymes (fungal alpha-amylase) transform starch into maltose and glucose; betaamylase does not exist in the human body, therefore external intake is necessary
