Hyaluronic acid

Hyaluronic acid is also known as hyaluronan. It is a molecule composed of sugars (polysaccharide) found in the extracellular matrix, especially in connective, epithelial and nervous tissues.

The name hyaluronic acid comes from its hyaloid (glass-like) appearance when it forms bonds with water, but also from the presence of hexuronic acid. It was later discovered that hyaluronic acid is also found in other organs and tissues, such as the skin, umbilical cord and synovial fluid between joints.

There are three types of hyaluronic acid used in cosmetics:

Hydrolysed hyaluronic acid has been broken down into elements small enough to penetrate the skin. It is moisturising and more suitable for people with oily or combination skin, as they should avoid over-moisturising.

Sodium hyaluronate penetrates deeper into the skin layers and has better results, although the effects do not last long. It is suitable for people with normal skin.

Sodium acetylated hyaluronate has the same benefits as sodium hyaluronate, but with longer-lasting results. It is suitable for people with dry skin, those who need extra hydration during the winter months or those who live in areas with a dry climate.

Hyaluronic acid has a wide range of benefits: it supports skin hydration, contributes to collagen synthesis, supports the lubrication of cartilage and joints, and can accelerate the wound healing process.

For hair, skin, nails and eyes: deeply moisturises tissues, combats the effects of ageing caused by a decrease in its natural concentration in the body, forms a protective layer on the skin's surface and restores its suppleness and firmness, gives a youthful appearance, reduces wrinkles and prevents their formation, brightens and improves the complexion, indirectly contributes to the formation of collagen, which determines the elasticity of the epidermis, combats cell degradation and delays the ageing of the skin, helps cell regeneration through the formation of fibroblasts (new skin cells), recommended for recovery after dermatological conditions or injuries, improves the structure and appearance of dry or damaged hair, reduces dandruff, dark circles and bags under the eyes, helps restore connective tissues, contributing to eye health, and is effective in treating retinal disorders.

Doses of 120-240 mg, used for six weeks, have been shown to significantly increase skin hydration. Hyaluronic acid-based solutions (ampoules, creams) can help soothe skin redness and reduce the specific symptoms of dermatitis. Hyaluronic acid injections can be used to fill and smooth fine and static wrinkles. These procedures are only performed in specialised clinics.

For muscles and joints: it helps stop the degenerative effects caused by ageing, contributes to the restoration of synovial fluid essential for joint mobility, reduces pain caused by inflammation, contributes to the health of the spine and the musculoskeletal system, is effective in combating and alleviating various conditions caused by cartilage ageing.

For tissue regeneration: supports the body in regenerating tissues affected by various conditions or sunburn.

Hyaluronic acid tablets promote healthy blood circulation and heart function by regenerating connective tissues. It is used to alleviate various conditions of the oral cavity and is effective in regenerating gums affected by various conditions.

Adverse reactions to hyaluronic acid may occur if it is applied too often, if hyaluronic acid is used in combination with other active ingredients, or if too high a concentration is applied.

Hyaluronic acid is contraindicated in pregnancy, breastfeeding, autoimmune diseases, anticoagulant treatment, and allergies.

Hyaluronic acid is known to be an ideal substance for dermal filling because it feels natural in the skin, is long-lasting and is the safest product available.

It comes in the form of fillers, injectable gels, which are easily inserted into and under the skin to instantly restore skin volume to smooth and eliminate facial lines and wrinkles, redefine lips and restore facial volume.

The treatment is performed under local anaesthesia, lasts 10-15 minutes, and the results are immediately visible. The effects of this treatment last for 6-12 months or longer, depending on metabolism, lifestyle, gender, age, medication, etc.

One week before treatment, it is recommended to stop taking anti-inflammatory drugs, anticoagulants, vitamin C and E.

After treatment, it is recommended to avoid strenuous exercise, exposure to extreme temperatures (sauna, intense cold, solarium, sun, etc.) and alcohol consumption for 24 hours.
