SPECIAL WARNING(S)
Special warnings for each target species:
Fleas serve as intermediate hosts for a common type of flatworm - Dipylidium caninum. Flatworm infestations are sure to recur if intermediate hosts such as fleas, mice, etc. are not controlled.
Flatworm infestation is less likely in puppies younger than 6 weeks old.
Parasite resistance to any particular class of anthelmintics may develop as a result of frequent, repeated use of a particular class of anthelmintics.
Care should be taken to avoid the following practices as they increase the risk of developing resistance and may ultimately lead to ineffective treatment.
Strategies that should be avoided as they may lead to an increased risk of developing resistance to anthelmintic substances include:
- frequent and repeated use of anthelmintics from the same class over a long period of time;
- underdosing.
Clinical cases suspected of anthelmintic resistance should be further investigated using appropriate tests (e.g., faecal egg count reduction test). In cases where the results of the test(s) strongly suggest resistance to a particular anthelmintic, one belonging to a different pharmacological class and having a different mode of action should be used.
Special precautions for use in animals:
To ensure the correct dosage is administered, body weight should be determined as accurately as possible. Do not use in dogs less than 2 weeks of age and/or weighing less than 3 kg.
Any unused divided tablet should be discarded.
Special precautions to be taken by the person administering the veterinary medicinal product to animals:
Avoid contact with eyes. In case of contact with eyes, rinse with plenty of water.
Avoid hand-eye and hand-mouth contact while handling the product.
In case of accidental ingestion, seek medical advice immediately and show the package leaflet or the label to the physician.
Wash your hands after use.
Gestation:
Teratogenic effects attributed to high doses of febantel have been reported in sheep and rats. Studies in early pregnancy have not been conducted in dogs. Use of the product during pregnancy should be based on a benefit-risk assessment by the responsible veterinarian.
Bitches should not be treated during the first 40 days of gestation.
Do not exceed the recommended dose when treating pregnant bitches.
Interactions with other medicinal products or other forms of interaction:
Concomitant use with other cholinergic compounds may lead to toxicity.
This product should not be administered concomitantly with other substances with cholinergic effects.
Simultaneous administration of compounds that inhibit acetylcholinesterase - AChE activity (e.g., organophosphates) may increase the systemic effect of pyrantel.
Do not use simultaneously with piperazine compounds as the anthelmintic effects of pyrantel and piperazine may be antagonized.
Overdose (symptoms, emergency procedures, antidote):
The combination of praziquantel, pyrantel embonate and febantel is well tolerated in dogs. In safety studies, a single dose of 5 times the recommended dose or more occasionally caused vomiting.
Incompatibilities:
That's not the case.
